The US ATLAS Institutional Board is the organization of 700 physicists from 50 universities and national laboratories that constitute the US membership of the ATLAS Collaboration at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. I was elected Chair and served from 2014 through 2015.

Every decade or so the US Particle Physics community does a long study of the future scientific steps that the US should take. This "Snowmass Study" completed in 2013 I co-chaired the Energy Frontier Subgroup of that study with Michael Peskin of Stanford and SLAC.

I was privileged to have been the Chair of the Division of Particles and Fields of the American Physical Society. This is the professional society for high energy physics and was a four year commitment. My chair year was 2010, preceded by vice-chair, chair elect roles and followed by the past chair responsibility.

I was Chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy from 1992 through 2000. During that time we built the Biological and Physical Sciences Building on the MSU campus and the SOAR telescope in Chile.

I have served in a number of service roles in my profession, the American Physical Society, and in various reviewer/advisor roles to the Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation, the State of Michigan,various physics departments, and the American Physical Society.
