Public Observing Nights.

During the warmer months the MSU Observatory will open its doors for public observing. The MSU 0.6 meter (24 inch) telescope will be setup for viewing on selected astronomical objects. Also, smaller telescopes are set up in the observatory parking lot, with both local area and MSU astronomers on hand to answer questions.

 

Public observing nights in 2024 will take place on the following days, sky conditions permitting:

  • Friday, April 12: Statewide Astronomy Night, 7:00-10:00 p.m. with special activities.
  • Saturday, April 20: 9:00-11:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 11: 9:00-11:00 p.m.
  • Friday, May 17: 9:00-11:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, June 15: 9:30-11:30 p.m.
  • Friday, June 21: 9:30-11:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, July 13: 9:30-11:30 p.m.
  • Friday, July 19: 9:30-11:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, August 10: 9:00-11:00 p.m.
  • Friday, August 16: 9:00-11:00 p.m.
  • Friday, September 6: 8:00-10:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, September 14: International Observe the Moon Night, 7:00-10:00 p.m. with special activities.
  • Saturday, October 12: 7:30-9:30 p.m.
  • Friday, October 18: 7:30-9:30 p.m.
