FURNACE SAFETY CONCERNS
- Do not use furnaces without proper training
- The furnaces require large amount of power. Therefore
do not run other equipment from the same electrical line.
Use properly grounded electrical outlet of correct
voltage and current handling capacity.
- Do not keep any flammable object near a hot furnace.
- Do not look inside a red hot furnace directly. Wear
dark glasses. Also wear a pair of insulated gloves while
handling hot objects near the furnace.
- Always wear eye protection when peeking into a hot furnace
containing ampoules. Note that an ampoule may explode any
time. (I heard that some people lost their eyes from such
accidents!)
- Ampoules or alumina boats that come out from a hot furnace
can burn a table top. Therefore, keep a hot brick or some
other kind of heat insulating
block/slab handy to put hot objects from the furnace.
- These instructions are not complete. Therefore, read
the manual for the furnaces. Ask for help if not
clear about the instructions.
