• Given length L available to make a wave and given that at both x=0 there must be a node (this end fixed) and at x=L there must be an antinode (this end open):

L = n l/4 (n =1, 3, 5, …)

or (with v = f l)

fn = n v/(4L) (n =1, 2, 3, …)
