GENERAL INFORMATION ON LABORATORY REPORTS,
GRADING, AND QUIZZES


LABORATORY REPORTS: Laboratory reports should have the following format:

Purpose.
A few sentences stating the objectives, the experimental approach and the physical principles of the experiment.

Data Summary.
Include a representative sample of your data which you can use in sample calculations and discussion.

Sample Calculations.
These should show how the data are used to obtain parameters and/or physical constants.

Results.
Describe the analysis of your data with numerical results and the role of errors. Graphs with curve fitting , answers to questions and the results of exercises should be here.

Conclusions.
Does the experiment demonstrate what it claims to show? Do your results agree with predictions? Any other constructive comments you think will be useful.


GRADING: Each week your grades will be determined as follows:

Two question quiz
2 points
Each week you will be given a two question/problem quiz to insure that you have read the experiment and are prepared to do it (if there is no quiz, these points will be added to the Lab Report grade).

Work in laboratory
4 points

Lab. Notebook
4 points
(initialed and graded before you leave class)

Lab. Report
10 points

Total (per week) 20 points
