Instructions for Using CAPA
CAPA is a "Computer-Assisted
Personalized
Approach
for assignments, quizzes and examinations." The system was developed at MSU and is used at over 50 colleges and universities in the US and abroad.
It is recommended that
you answer the questions and work the problems before you 'login' to the
computer. Discussion of concepts and methods of solving problems
with fellow students is also strongly encouraged.
Each assignment sheet has your Name and also a specific CAPA
ID
number. You may enter solutions either through vt100 emulation (Telnet)
or through the web.
Web Version:

To use the web version of CAPA, point your browser to the URL:

From the pull-down menu, choose phy183f0
-
Enter your student number and CAPA ID in the designated fields.

Click on the appropriate 'here' button to go to the main menu.

Choose 'Try Current Set'. Your assignment will then be displayed.

Follow the instructions before you, and remember to "Submit All Answers"
before you exit.
Telnet Version:
For access from wherever you can telnet:

Make sure that you are using VT100 terminal emulation.

Telnet to capa4.lite.msu.edu
-
You should next see the prompt login:
To connect via modem:
-
Make sure that you are using VT100 terminal emulation.

Connect to Michnet by dialin 353-3500.

You will see the prompt host:

Enter capa4.lite.msu.edu
-
You will receive an Access Controlled message and the prompt
login:
-
Enter your pilot ID (e.g. username@pilot.msu.edu).

You will receive the prompt Password:
-
Enter your pilot ID password.

You will then be connected to capa4, and you will see the prompt login:

NOTE: From PC's running windows, you may first need to start the
telnet application before entering the command to open a session to capa4.lite.msu.edu.
At the login: prompt, enter phy183f0. Then follow instructions.
