How to use CAPA for Physics 232
Web Version
- To use the web version of CAPA, point your
browser to the CAPA sign-in page given below
- Choose phy232s0 from the pull-down menu of classes
- Enter your Student Number and your CAPA ID
for this set, which is printed at the top of your assignment
- If you have lost your paper, and the hence lost the CAPA ID, you
can log in with an old set and follow the directions to get your
CAPA id e-mailed to your pilot e-mail address.
- Click on the appropriate 'here' button to go to
the main CAPA menu
- Choose 'Try Current Set'. Your assignment will
then be displayed
- You may enter all of your answers at once prior
to submitting, or (safer) submit each one
- Exit the system by choosing 'File' then
'Exit/Quit'

Telnet Version
- To connect to CAPA using a telnet session
from a computer lab on campus:
- For PC's,
- Select Class Software from the
main menu.
- Choose CAPA -
Assignments
- Choose Login to capa2
- Follow the instructions. At the password:
prompt, press the return key.
- You should next see the prompt login:
- For Mac's
- Open the Class Software folder
- Open the CAPA folder
- Open the folder named capa2
- You should next see the prompt login:
- To connect via modem:
- Check your modem software to be certain
you are using a VT100 emulator
- Connect to Michnet by dialing 353-3500 (?)
- You will receive the prompt host:
- Enter capa2.nscl.msu.edu
- You will receive an
Access
Controlled
message and the prompt login:
- Enter your pilot id (e.g. username@pilot.msu.edu)
- You will receive the prompt Password:
- Enter your pilot id password
- You will then be connected to capa2, and
will receive the prompt login:
- Enter the course name as printed in bold
at the top of your homework page (phy232s0)
- You will then see the CAPA login
screen where you are prompted to enter
your student number and CAPA ID.
- NOTE: From PC's running windows,
you may first need to start the telnet
application before entering the command
to open a session to capa2.nscl.msu.edu.
- To connect from most networked mainframe
computers:
- Log in to the mainframe computer.
- Enter telnet capa2.nscl.msu.edu
- You will receive the prompt login:
- Enter the course name as printed in bold
at the top of your homework page
- You will then see the CAPA login
screen where you are prompted to enter
your student number and CAPA ID.
