Welcome to PHY 234B.   The course syllabus can be viewed at:

All homework assignments are done using the MSU Loncapa system. There is a link to instructions for using Loncapa in the syllabus.  Problem sets are usually due on Tuesdays at 8:30 PM. Deadlines for completing reading quizzes are usually on Modays and Thursdays at 8:30 PM. Homework problems and reading quizzes can be found in the HOMEWORK PROBLEMS and READING QUIZZES folders, respectively, within the Loncapa table of contents for the course. The first quizz is due on Aug 28 and the first problem set on Sep 2.

Help in solving assigned problems may be sought by posting questions in the 'Post Discussion' area under each problem. Answers directing the posters towards a solution may be posted by other students or by instructors. Under no circumstances outright solutions to the problems may be posted. As detrimental to the educational process, such posts will get deleted; repeated offenders may receive a penalty grade. Questions that may afford an answer within few sentences may be furthermore directed to the instructors through the mail system under Loncapa.

More thorough, face-to-face help can be obtained in the Strosacker Learning Center, Rm. 1248 Biomedical and Physical Sciences Building, with instructors present during the hours posted within the syllabus. Most of those manned hours are on Monday and Tuesday before homework deadlines.

There will be three midterms given in room BPS 1415 on Wednesdays from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM – specific dates are shown elsewhere in the syllabus. Mark the exam times right away on your calendar!  There will be no make-up exams.   However, each midterm will be followed by a partial-credit exam solved under Loncapa in the same manner as the homework. A partial-credit exam gives a chance to increase midterm score. PHY234B has no final exam.
