Optional not for credit material
Concept tests and Attitudinal surveys
- Over the first weekend of the semester and the weekend prior to the final exam, two optional items will be provided for completion. No credit or bonus is offered for any of these items.
- Concept test: An assessment meant to determine student understanding of electricity and magnetism concepts. The department offers this to help improve future versions of this course and its traditional equivalent. The pre-course version will be available from August 30 through September 1 and the post course version will be available from December 8 through December 10.
- Attitudinal survey: This survey is meant to assess student beliefs about learning physics. The pre-course version will be available from August 30 through September 1 and the post course version will be available from December 8 through December 10.
Practice Exam Problems
- To assist you in better preparing for our exams, we have compiled sets of practice problems and solutions. The older set is a compilation of problems given on exams in PHY231C and its traditional equivalent, PHY 231 prior to the Spring 2011 session. The newer set contains every problem given on a midterm exam in this course during the previous academic year (2016-2017).
Practice Exam Problems from before Spring 2011
- These problems are in the form of a static pdf and the solutions are in the form of online lectures. Old practice exam 1 to our first midterm, exam 2 to our second midterm and exam 3 is applicable to our third exam. All old practice exams are applicable to the final exam.
Practice Exam Problems given on midterm exams last year
- These problems are coded in Lon-Capa and have no due date set. two versions of each problem is available for your use and each are coded in exam mode (i.e. they look just like the problems will on our exam). The first, has incorrect/correct feedback disabled -- just like the bonus homework questions. This has the advantage of allowing you to return to the question later without having the correct response open for view. The second version, placed in a sub folder has this feedback enabled, so you can try the problem and immediately tell whether it is correct or incorrect. The solutions are given in one of three forms:
- A static pdf with a reference to an online lecture where the solution to a substantially similar problem is located.
- A reference to the section in our require text where the solution to a substantially similar problem is located.
- An online lecture solving the problem.
- The coverage on these problems from last year's exams is just like that of the old practice problems.
Solutions to this midterm exams for this course
- After the due date of the correction exam, a solution to the midterm exam will become available in Lon-Capa. Problem solutions will be given in one of three forms:
- A static pdf with a reference to an online lecture where the solution to a substantially similar problem is located.
- A reference to the section in our require text where the solution to a substantially similar problem is located.
- An online lecture solving the problem.
