EXAMS

• For the exam, each student should bring a #2 pencil,a calculator for numerical calculation (Graphing calculators are permitted; cell phones, PDAs and computers are NOT permitted) and a picture ID.
• With the exception of a calculator, students with any electronic device out during an exam will receive a grade of zero for the exam. For example, devices such as, but not limited to a cell phone, computer or tablet out during an exam will result in the student receiving a penalty grade of zero for the exam. In addition, an official report of academic dishonesty will be filed with the University.
• Both the midterm and final exams are closed book, but you may use a 8-1/2 x 11 inch or smaller sheet of hand-written notes and equations (you may use both sides of this sheet) on the midterm exam; on the final exam, you may use two 8-1/2 x 11 inch or smaller sheets of hand-written notes and equations (you may use both sides of these sheets).
• Exam questions will include both numeric and conceptual, e.g. true/false, less than/greater than equal to, ranking, direction of vector, etc.
• The midterm exam covers all material up to and including the unit on DC Circuits. It will be based on material from the assigned readings, online lectures and associated homework sets.
• The time limit on the midterm exam is 60 minutes.
• The final exam is cumulative and will have a 2 - hour time limit.
• The material on the final will be roughly 25% from the pre-midterm material and 75% post-midterm material. It will be based on the assigned readings, online lectures and associated homework.
• It is University policy that students missing a final exam will receive a grade of 0 for the course.
• The format of the exam will be multiple choice and it will be given on the MSU campus or via video proctoring if you meet all qualifications and are enrolled in section 731.
• If you are living far from the MSU campus at the time of the exam, beyond a reasonable commuting distance (1 hour drive time) AND not enrolled in a regular (non-online) MSU course meeting on MSU's campus, you may choose to have your exams administered using an online video proctor. Your enrollment will be verified and if you are in a regular (non-online) MSU course, you must take your exams at MSU (if you are close enough to travel here for classes, such as PHY 252, you are close enough to take our two exams here). If you meet these criteria and wish to have your exams proctored online, you must enroll in section 731. If you do not meet these criteria or wish to take your two exams at MSU, you should enroll in section 730. Arrangements must be made well in advance.. • The midterm exam will have a correction exam assigned as a homework assignment in Lon-Capa. 30% of the positive difference between the correction exam and the in-class exam will be added to your in-class exam score as bonus. As such, the correction exam homework assignment can only add points to your midterm exam score. Only students taking the original exam will have access to the correction exam. The correction exam will be available on the on the next business day after the midterm -- see the list of dates in the calendar section of this syllabus)
• There is no correction exam associated with the final exam.
• Missing an exam: A make-up midterm exam will only be given for University approved reasons and documentation is required i.e. in the case of illness, a note from your doctor. A vacation, for example, is not an approved reason -- for such planned events you should arrange for an off-campus proctored exam prior to the stipulated deadline. Missing an exam due to travel and not finding(and arranging for) an appropriate proctor to administer the exam on its scheduled date will result in a score of 0 for the exam. In the case of missing the final exam, the MSU policy is: "A student absent from a final examination without a satisfactory explanation will receive a grade of 0.0 on the numerical system, NC on the CR-NC system, or N in the case of a course authorized for grading on the P-N system. Students unable to take a final examination because of illness or other reason over which they have no control should notify the associate deans of their colleges immediately." As is the case with the midterm exam, a vacation or oversleeping are not considered approved reasons for missing the final exam.
