I tried an experiment:

The Dialight model (.stp file) opens as a series of parts in FreeCAD

I did "select all" and then hit export.  I exported as test.stl 

I imported TEST.STL in Blender and then exported as LED-direct-export.dae

I imported LED-direct-export.dae into Sketchup
  and scaled to 0.001
  and saved as LED-direct-export.skp

And this seems to have worked!
