Fiber Optic Signal Maps for the MSU 14 Slot Shelf --------------------------------------------------- Original Rev. 5-Sept-2019 Current Rev. 6-Sept-2019 This file describes the mapping of the Fiber Optic signals in the 14 Slot ATCA Shelf that is used for MSU Production Testing of the Hub Modules. Connections from the Hub FO Transmitters to the MTG FO Receivers: ---------------------------------------- A standard 12 fiber ribbon MPO patch cable is used to connect from the Hub's 8 MiniPOD Transmitter outputs to 8 of the 12 HTM MiniPOD Receiver inputs. 4 of the HTM's MiniPOD Receiver inputs do not have a signal. The Hub Transmitter to HTM Receiver mapping is shown in the following table. 8 Hub FO Transmitters to 8 of 12 HTM FO Receivers ----------------------------------------------------------- Hub Transmitter HTM Receiver --------------- ---------------- Quad 227 Ch 2 MPO Quad 109 Ch 0 Tx MiniPOD Ch 0 --> Fiber 12 --> Rec MiniPOD Ch 0 Quad 227 Ch 0 MPO Quad 112 Ch 3 Tx MiniPOD Ch 1 --> Fiber 11 --> Rec MiniPOD Ch 1 Quad 226 Ch 2 MPO Quad 109 Ch 1 Tx MiniPOD Ch 2 --> Fiber 10 --> Rec MiniPOD Ch 2 Quad 226 Ch 0 MPO Quad 109 Ch 2 Tx MiniPOD Ch 4 --> Fiber 8 --> Rec MiniPOD Ch 4 Quad 225 Ch 2 MPO Quad 109 Ch 3 Tx MiniPOD Ch 6 --> Fiber 6 --> Rec MiniPOD Ch 6 Quad 225 Ch 0 MPO Quad 110 Ch 0 Tx MiniPOD Ch 8 --> Fiber 4 --> Rec MiniPOD Ch 8 Quad 224 Ch 2 MPO Quad 110 Ch 1 Tx MiniPOD Ch 10 --> Fiber 2 --> Rec MiniPOD Ch 10 Quad 224 Ch 0 MPO Quad 111 Ch 2 Tx MiniPOD Ch 11 --> Fiber 1 --> Rec MiniPOD Ch 11 When driven this way by the Hub FO Transmitters the following HTM FO Receivers do not have an input signal: HTM Rec Quad 111 Ch 3 Rec MiniPOD Ch 9 MPO Fiber 3 HTM Rec Quad 112 Ch 0 Rec MiniPOD Ch 7 MPO Fiber 5 HTM Rec Quad 112 Ch 1 Rec MiniPOD Ch 5 MPO Fiber 7 HTM Rec Quad 112 Ch 2 Rec MiniPOD Ch 3 MPO Fiber 9 The FO transmitters of Hub #1 are connected to the FO receivers of HTM #3 and the FO transmitters of Hub #2 are connected to the FO receivers of HTM #4 with the mapping indicated above. Connections from the HTM FO Transmitters to the Hub FO Receivers: ---------------------------------------- Because of the limited number of MGT transceivers, on the HTM there are only 4 active MiniPOD Transmitter channels and on the Hub there are only 4 active MiniPOD Receiver channels. The 4 HTM FO Transmitters are connected to the 4 Hub FO Receivers using two MPO to LC breakout cables. This set of 4 FO connections is only made from HTM #4 to Hub #2. 4 HTM FO Transmitters to 4 Hub FO Receivers ------------------------------------------------------------ HTM Transmitter LC to LC Hub Receiver --------------- ---------- ---------------- Quad 112 Ch 0 MPO Fibers Quad 224 Ch 0 Tx MiniPOD Ch 2 --> 10 --> 6 --> Rec MiniPOD Ch 6 Quad 112 Ch 1 MPO Fibers Quad 224 Ch 2 Tx MiniPOD Ch 0 --> 12 --> 10 --> Rec MiniPOD Ch 2 Quad 112 Ch 2 MPO Fibers Quad 224 Ch 1 Tx MiniPOD Ch 1 --> 11 --> 8 --> Rec MiniPOD Ch 4 Quad 112 Ch 3 MPO Fibers Quad 124 Ch 0 Tx MiniPOD Ch 3 --> 9 --> 4 --> Rec MiniPOD Ch 8 Background Information: ----------------------- - Recall that the Hub has 4 FO Receivers and 8 FO Transmitters. See Hub Drawings #22 and #23. - Recall that the HTM has 12 FO Receivers and 4 FO Transmitters. See HTM Drawing #6. - HTM Drawing #23 shows 1/2 of the eventual target permanent FO layout for the 14SS which is used for testing the MSU Production Hub Modules. - Currently in the MSU 14SS there are no FO connections to the ROD. - The limited FO connections that have been installed in the 14SS are probably part of what the final setup will be so it is not a waste of effort to understand the current setup. - Remember that this is all complicated by the fact that MiniPOD channels are numbered 0-11 in one direction while MPO fibers are numbered 1-12 in the other direction and what you care about is MGT Quad - Channel numbers. MiniPOD Molex Prizm MPO Channel Fiber Number Number ------- ------- 0 12 1 11 2 10 3 9 4 8 5 7 6 6 7 5 8 4 9 3 10 2 11 1 <-- White Dot on MPO Connector - Recall that on Hub #1 MGT Quad 224 Ch 0 Receiver is defined as the Optical TTC FELIX connection and thus can not be part of any IBERT testing in the 14SS (but Quad 224 Ch 0 Rec can be IBERT tested on Hub #2). - Hub #1 Receiver FO connections - Currently the only connection to Hub #1 FO Receivers is the Optical TTC FELIX signal on MPO Fiber #6, MiniPOD Receiver channel #6, Hub FPGA Quad 224 Ch 0. The other 3 FO Receivers on Hub #1 currently have no input signal. - HUB #1 Transmitter FO connections - The 8 active Tx fibers from Hub #1 are routed to the FO Rx inputs on HTM #3. On the HTM all 12 of its MiniPOD Receiver channels are connected to its FPGA so the 8 FO outputs from the Hub just land where they may when this FO connection is made using a standard MPO patch cable. - Hub #2 Receiver FO connections - The 4 FO Rx on Hub #2 are driven by the 4 FO Tx on HTM #4. - HUB #2 Transmitter FO connections - The 8 active Tx fibers from Hub #2 are routed to the FO Rx inputs on HTM #4. The mapping of Hub #2 Tx outputs to HTM #4 Rx inputs is the same as the mapping from Hub #1 Tx to HTM #3 Rx. - Summary - From the FO point of view, for now you only care about: the 8 FO Tx outputs on Hub #1 the 8 FO Tx outputs on Hub #2 the 4 FO Rx inputs on Hub #2 8 of the 12 FO Rx inputs on HTM #3 8 of the 12 FO Rx inputs on HTM #4 the 4 FO Tx outputs on HTM #4
