FRAMEWORK SINGLE SIGNAL NOTES --------------------------------- Original Version: 14-JUN-1999 Current Version: 18-APR-2003 The purpose of this file is to collect the information about the various "single signals" in the Run II Trigger Framework. Although there are many fewer single signals in the Run II FW compared to the Run I setup, these signals need special documentation because there function is often extremely important but not obvious or understood by everyone. The information about each of the single signals that would be good to collected here includes: 1. Name (and any slang names) of the signal. 2. Its function, Who generates it, Who receives it, What it does 3. Physical location of the cabling for the signal. Labeling of the cable. 4. Any special assembly or routing requirements of the cable (e.g. it length in time). 5. Source and destination (connector and card) for the signal. 6. List of special or not obvious characteristics of the signal. 7. List of special or not obvious "things" that if changed will effect this single signal. List of Run II Framework Single Signals ------------------------------------------- Skip Next Crossing to TDM ------------------------- The purpose of this signal is to prevent the FW from firing on the next beam crossing after it has fired. Because of the two stage pipeline design of the FW a special signal is needed for this purpose. This signal is generated by the "L1 Fired Strobe" and then needs to be injected into the beginning of the second stage of the pipeline. It can not go into the beginning of the first stage or there would be one BX (right after the L1 Accept) that was not controllable. In M123 Mid crate on the J3 connector in slot #3 pins 32 D&E go to the bottom pair of pins on the card to card daisy chain connectors on the TDM-PB via 3 or 4 feet of coiled up single signal cable. This is what will ultimately be the Skip Next signal. Initially, for Single Chance Test, it is connected as all of the other Correlated Global Disables. 6-April Disconnect the cable from slot #3 and instead plug that end into MSA 32 slot #20. This is MSA Out 32 from the FOM++ (so Skip Next), sent to the back of the rack via the Pass Through in Slot 20. Recall how the Global Disables are setup: Glb_Dis_0 is Non-Correlated input #0 not currently used Glb_Dis_1 is Non-Correlated input #1 not currently used Glb_Dis_2 is Non-Correlated input #2 not currently used Glb_Dis_3 is Non-Correlated input #3 TCC Pause/Resume Glb_Dis_4 is Correlated input #0 not currently used Glb_Dis_5 is Correlated input #1 not currently used Glb_Dis_6 is Correlated input #2 not currently used Glb_Dis_7 is Correlated input #3 Skip Next Skip Next Crossing to PBS ------------------------- In M123 Mid crate on the J3 connector in slot #3 pins 32 A&B go to the 16th pair of a short flat cable to M122 Mid crate J3 per bunch SM-PB. The connection from M123 Mid crate slot #3 J3 pins 32 A&B to the flat cable is via 3 or 4 feet of single signal cable. As for the TDM, the Skip Next signal to the PBS is initially connected to the TRM Correlated Global Disable(3). 6-April Disconnect the cable from slot #3 and instead plug that end into MSA 33 slot #20. This is the MSA Out 33 from the FOM++ (so Skip Next), sent to the back of the rack via the Pass Through in Slot 20. Helper Function Clock Signal ---------------------------- The purpose of this timing signal is to provide a clock signal, generated by the Carmen Master Clock, to the Framework Helper Function. This signal is generated by Time Line #? in the Master Clock, passes through the "5th" Selector FanOut, i.e. the SFO in SFO slot #8, through one of our Carmen Paddle Boards, and via twist and flat cable to rack M122. ...... Trigger Decision Module P5 Connector to FOM++ --------------------------------------------- Each of the 8 Trigger Decision Modules has a single signal coming out its P5 connector that indicates if any of its 16 Specific Triggers is firing on this tick and that the firing Specific Trigger's "mark and force pass" scaler is at its terminal count thus indicating that the "Mark and Force Pass Level 1 Qualifier" should be asserted with this Level 1 Accept. These signals originate on the TRM card front panel P5 connectors and enter the FOM++ by its P5 connector. L1AL2 Scaler Rev. 16-JUNE-2000 ------------ The L1AL2 Scaler counts the number of outstanding L1 Accepts, i.e. the number of L1 Accepts that have been issued that have not yet had their L2 Decision distributed. The L1AL2 scaler is located in M123 Bottom Slot 19 in FPGA 16. Besides being able to read the output of this scaler by the monitor data path, the output of this scaler is applied to 4 comparators. The output of these comparators can be Terms to the And-Or network. The L1AL2 Scaler receives a copy of the L1 Fired Strobe that comes from the fanout box that makes lots of copies of L1 Fired Strobe. The L1AL2 Scaler uses a non delayed version of the L1 Fired Strobe and it receives this signal on its MSA_In_122 connection. The L1AL2 Scaler receives a copy of the Send_L2_Decision signal. It gets this signal from L2_Helper MSA_Out_25. It receives this signal on its MSA_In_123 connection. The L1AL2 Scaler Comparator 3:0 Outputs appear on it MSA_Out_(35:32) connections. Two of these L1AL2 Comparators 1:0 are currently wired to And-Or Input Terms 241:240. L1AL2 Comparators 3:2 are not currently connected but their cables have been routed up to the And-Or Term input patch panel.
