THE-CARD Final Assembly --------------------------- Initial Rev. 19-MAR-1998 Final Rev. 24-FEB-1999 check for mechanical damage shorts check the power supplies: supply to gnd and supply to supply this can be done at the electrolytic caps check the tightness of the screws that hold on the rear card stiffener. Install the front panel: 1. Install the two LED's into the front panel. 2. Install the injection and extraction handles on the front panel. 3. Install the two board support brackets that belong at the Finisar location. This is done using trimmed 4-40 x 3/4" hardware. 4. Install the two board support brackets on the 160 pin front panel ERNI connector. This is done using insulation washers and M2.5 x ?? screws. 5. Install the two Schroff board support brackets on either side of the 34 pin front panel connector using M2.5 x 8 screws. 6. Install the single Schroff board support brackets at the bottom of THE CARD just above the bottom injection/ejection handle. This Schroff board support bracket is installed using M2.5 x 8 screws. 7. Install the front panel to the board. 8. Solder the appropriate LED wires to the appropriate via's that are located near the bottom of the Finisar module location. The upper LED is the Board VME Active indicator. Use a protective cover over most of the area of THE-Card will doing this work. Recall the various front panel colors AONM Orange \ Watch for the FOM Green / XL Xilinx cards 2. To first pick up the card touch it first by one of the leads on an aluminum electrolytic capacitor to take care of the static problem. 3. If there are any long leads from the aluminum electrolytic capacitors on the solder side of the board fold them over but do not press the shape ends into the G10 board. 4. Tighten the rear stiffener bar screws and rear connector screws. There are 12 of these. They may be tightened firmly. If the heads of any of these screws have been chewed up then verify that there are no loose chips of metal ready to come off the heads of these screws. 5. Tighten the 2 screws on the P2 34 pin Global I/O connector. These may be tightened firmly. 6. Remove all 4 screws from the P4 MSA_OUT connector and put these screws and their nuts in a plastic storage container. 7. Examine with a magnifying glass the solder side traces under where these 4 MSA_OUT connector screw heads had been. 8. Worry about the way these traces look for a while. 9. Use 4 M2.5x16mm screws and 4 AMATOM 2201-F-104 fiber washers to mount two "P4 to Front Panel Brackets" on the P4 MSA_OUT connectors. Do not tighten these 4 screws yet. 10. Use 2 4-40 x 3/4 screws and 4-40 nuts to mount the "Finisar site to Front Panel Bracket" onto the THE-Card circuit board. Do not tighten these 2 screws yet. 11. Mount 3 "Schroff Brackets" onto the THE-Card circuit board using M2.5 x 8mm screws. Two of these brackets are by the Global I/O connector and one is by the bottom of the front panel. Do not tighten these 3 M2.5 screws yet. 12. Mount the 2 ejection handles to the front panel using the supplied short philips screws. The rest of the hardware that is supplied with these handles should be placed in plastic storage container. 13. Install the front panel, with handles, to the THE-Card circuit board using 9 M2.5 x 8mm screws. Seven of these screws go through the front panel to brackets already mounted to the circuit board. Two of these screws go through the circuit board to tapped holes in the handles. 14. Tighten these 9 screws that hold the front panel to the various brackets and the 9 screws hat hold the various brackets to the THE-Card circuit board in a cyclic manner. Tighten these to a firm rational level. Verify that the 4 fiber washers are all in good condition protecting the underlying traces. 15. Install the 2 LED's into the front panel. 16. For each of the 2 LED's twist the wires from the LED together and then solder them into the indicated locations near the Finisar package. 17. Glue the LED Wires and aluminum electrolytic capacitor to the circuit board. 18. Install the VME FPGA Configuration EPROM. ********* additional steps added 24-FEB-1999 *********** 19. Solder bridge together pins 11, 12, 13 on U44 (eliminates floating CMOS inputs on this IC) 20. Glue down the 6 big capacitors with super glue. 21. Glue down the 2 pairs of LED leads, one pair on each side of C41.
