They do not try to show signals grouped into ribbons or ribbons grouped into bundles. The lists cover only the Central Calorimeter because I have not yet been able to find information about End-Cap BLS card locations. To help understand the layout at the trigger end of the cables the arrangement of the 4 connectors on a trigger CTFE card is shown in the drawing below. SIGNALS INTO RIBBON CABLES ---------------------------------------------------------- SECOND DRAFT 23-MAR-1990 The following table shows how the connections between BLS cards and Calorimeter Trigger CTFE cards can be grouped into ribbons of 8 signals. The 16 coaxal cables in a ribbon carry the 8 signals differentially. The example shown is for the NORTH half of the Central Calorimeter, Calorimeter SECTORS 0 through 7. The BLS cards for this part of the calorimeter are in rack PC02. The layout of the other BLS racks serving the Central Calorimeter is similar. For these examples I will number the ribbons starting from 1. At the BLS end of each ribbon there are 2 connectors I will call these A and B. The A connector is on the coax number 1 side of the ribbon and normally carries signals of lower eta or phi than the B connector. It requires 12 ribbon cables for each of the Central Calorimeter BLS crates. These ribbons are grouped into bundles with 5 ribbons per bundle. Ribbons number 1 through 5 are in the first bundle. Ribbons number 6 through 10 are in the second bundle. Ribbons number 11 through 15 are in the third bundle. Thus there is one spare ribbon per bundle. What follows are three examples of how the ribbons could be grouped into bundles. Each example includes a drawing showing how the BLS rack whould look from the front. Example #1 In the layout shown below all connectors from all of the ribbons are used straight in order through out the 3 BLS crates in the rack. There is one spare full ribbon per bundle. None of the ribbons split between BLS racks. None of the ribbons split between BLS crates. At the trigger end of the ribbons 8 of the 12 ribbons are split between racks.
