FIRST TIER POWER PAN ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS -------------------------------------------- 14-FEB-1992 This file lists some important points that must be remembered for correct assembly of D0 Calorimeter Trigger Power Pans. They should be followed carefully. It is also useful to have a correctly completed power pan available for reference. This file specifies a rough order of operations as well. Power Supplies -------------- Use the oldest power supplies first. Steve and Dan know which supplies are older (rm 156 has old supplies, S/N 43 is there). Recall that a pan is made up of one of each: Pioneer -5.2V @ 200A Pioneer -4.5V @ 200A Pioneer -2.0V @ 250A Powertek +5.0V @ 600A Power Pans ---------- Each pan must have a circuit breaker housing. Verify that all wiring is in, and hardware is fastened. Installing Supplies in Pans --------------------------- Put a serial number on each power supply. Also put the serial number on the check-in sheet which is packed with the power supply. Be certain the S/N is legible and in a place which will not be hidden. The first serial numbers should be: Pioneer ("small") bricks: #44 (note Pioneer bricks numbered sequentially regardless of voltage) Powertek ("big") bricks: #14 Write today's date on both the power supply and the check-in sheet which is packed with the power supply. Save the check-in sheet for Dan/Steve. The Pioneer bricks are fastened to the pan with the flat-head machine screws. Please make certain no round-head screws are used. I think I sorted them all out. Verify that the bricks are mounted in the correct order. See model. Be sure that the correct sensor wire is attached to the correct power pan. The desired order is: Front View -5.2 -4.5 -2.0 +5.0 Crimp, then solder, the lugs to the sensor wires. The +5V Powertek brick needs the large lugs. Leave some "slack" in the sensor wires. See model. Don't use washers on the sensor wire screws. When mounting sensor wire, be certain it is not going to be crushed by the monolith. This is done by mounting the wire with duct tape as seen on the model. Ask Dan or Steve. Reinstall the shock-protector covers over the AC input wire leads. Monoliths --------- Some monolith leads may need to be bent. Brass washers should be placed on both sides of the monolith lead to power supply lug connection. Make certain the monoliths are labelled with the voltaged on each lead. Finishing up ------------ Protect the rear corner (where AC power comes in) with duct tape as in the model. Record which power supplies are in each pan. The pan serial number is the monolith serial number.
