It was disassembled on 24-FEB-99 to get bricks to make the Run II MSU Test Framework Power Pan. All of its bricks are of the "old type" The bricks that it had in it were: SN #12 9-NOV-1988 SN #2 20-JULY-1988 SN #3 20-JULY-1988 SN #none Serial 293944 5D200-0-4-6 PM2500A-2 In making a power pan for the Run II MSU FW Test Rack these bricks were used in the following way: SN #12 9-NOV-1988 Converted to 3.3 Volt and used for +3.3 Volt SN #2 20-JULY-1988 used for +5 Volt SN #3 20-JULY-1988 used for -4.5 Volt SN #none Serial 293944 5D200-0-4-6 PM2500A-2 This brick was converted to 2V but when tested it could make ouly 70 Amps before it went out of regulation. It is one of the old style 200 Amp brick that cost a lot to repair so it is being junked. The Run II Test Framework Power Pan is using the monolith from FW Mono #2 and it is using the actual green pan from what was the Run I M114 Power Pan. Brick no MSU# SN#293943 also from the Run I M114 Power Pan is of the "old type" and was converted to 2 Volt and then used in the MSU Test FW Power Pan as the -2 Volt supply. On 4-NOV-1995 the +5 supply for rack M102 failed. The defective brick, 2500A-2 5D200-0-4-6 SN# 296343, was removed and replaced by a space 2500A-2, MSU SN#9 from 9-NOV-1988, that has been stored at Fermi as a spare for some years. I do not know if we will be able to get the broken SN#296343 repaired for a reasonable price or not. This Power Pan was setup with the following target voltages under a 100 Amp test load: #1 Top +5 is 5.070 Volts -5.2 is 5.245 Volts #2 Bottom +5 is 5.054 Volts -5.2 is 5.229 Volts This distribution of output voltages should balance the current loads. See the 6-NOV-1995 entry in the D0 Hall Log Book for more details. This power pan was brought back to MSU in Feb-99. It will be used for bricks for the Run II MSU Test Framework rack. SN#50 was installed as +5V and SN#87 was installed at -5.2V. The Fermi loan bricks were returned to Prep. On 1-JUNE-1995 we started to have some trouble with the Power Pan for M114. Its 5V brick SN#50 from 15-MAR-91 was bad and has been returned for repair. Its -5.2V brick SN#87 from 7-JAN-92 was also bad and has been returned for repair. The M114 Power Pan was rebuilt with two bricks for +5V and two bricks for -5.2V. The target voltages for setting up this pan are +5.090 and -5.295. The load currents (with an almost full rack M114) are about 105 Amps of +5V and 146 Amps of -5.2V. This power pan was brought back to MSU in Feb-99. The actual green aluminim pan is being used for the Run II MSU Test Framework rack Power Pan. On 25-APR-94 the -4.5 V brick SN# 38 was removed and returned to Pioneer for repair. -4.5V brick SN# 95 was installed in PDM-14 and the whole Power Pan was tested. On 27-APR-1994 PDM-14 was returned to Fermi as a spare. On 6-JUNE-1994 PDM-23, which was running M107 upper T1, failed and PDM-14 was installed in its place. On 2-OCT-1994 the -4.5 Volt brick (MSU SN#95 7-JAN-1992 416265) fails while running in beam (output goes to -3 Volts). PDM-14 is pulled from M107 Upper T1 and replaced by PDM-17. On 4-OCT-1994 at Fermi PDM-14 is repared and tested. The failed -4.5 brick (SN#95) is replaced by SN#40 from 15-MAR-1991. Brick SN#40 had just been returned to us in June 1994. PDM-14 remains at D-Zero Hall as a tested spare. On 28-FEB-1995 this unit was put into service as the Upper T1 supply in rack M108. This unit replaced PDM-21 whose -4.5V brick had failed. On 30-NOV-1992 the -2V brick (S.N. 63 21-JAN-1992) in PDM-17 died. This pan is returned to MSU for repair. Much testing at MSU could not make the -2Volt brick SN#63 fail. This power pan was completely retested on 22-DEC-1992. Shipped to Fermi on 6-JAN-1993 for lower Tier 1 in rack M112. On 20-AUG-1993, a couple of hours after L1 Cal Trig Tier 1 was started back up after the summer shutdown, the -2V 250A brick SN #63 from 21-JAN-1992 failed (again). It failed slowly working on and off for about one hour. On 1-SEPT-1993 it was replaced with brick SN #16 from 9-NOV-1988. When returned to lower Tier 1 in M112, this Power Pan still did not operate properly. The -2 Volts comes on the instant that the front panel switch is turned on and this keeps the +5 Volt brick from ever starting its inverters. Looking at the front panel test points for the +5V one sees _0.3 or -0.4 volts. The "new" -2V brick SN#16 is an old model PM2500A-2. This pan will be returned to MSU for more tests. Perhaps the -2V brick from the MSU test rack can be used in this pan. The lower Tier 1 in M112 will now be server by PDM-08. PDM-08 had been a spare Tier 1 Pan stored at Fermi. On 13-SEPT-1993 the -2.0 Volt brick (SN 16 9-NOV-1988) was removed from this Power Pan and installed in the MSU Test Rack tier 1 Power Pan. The -2.0 Volt brick from MSU Test Rack Power Pan (SN 54 21-JAN-1992) was instaled in this Power Pan. This change was to fix the problem that -2.0 Volt brick SN 16 is of the "old" type, it turns on instantly, and this prevents the +5 Volt brick from starting when it is used in a real fully loaded Tier 1 crate. On 28-SEP-1993 this Power Pan was fully tested including startup with 4 ohm resistor between +5V and one at a time all of the negative supplies. Returned to Fermi as a spare on 29-SEP-1993. On 2-OCT-1994 PDM-14, which was running M107 upper T1, failed and PDM-17 was installed in its place. Power Pan ID: PDM-18 Location: D0 Hall 1st floor MCH +5.0 Volt S.N. 18 14-Feb-1992 Rev. Tested Feb 1992. Shipped to Fermi MAR 92. Installed in lower Tier 1 M109 in July 1992. On 5-JUNE-1995 the -4.5V supply in PDM-19 went out of tolerance a couple of time causing fatal alarms. The alarm tolerance was increased 200 mV and the store completed with no triggering problems. Then PDM-19 was pulled out of lower M109 and replaced by PDM-21. The bad -4.5V brick in PDM-19 (SN#57 from 15-MAR-91) was removed and replaced with brick SN#38 from 15-MAR-91. When this Power Pan was then tested it was discovered tha the +5V brick had its green "Power OK" LED go out when a loaded above 20 AMPS. So it looks like PDM-19 also needs its +5V brick replaced. PDM-19 will stay at Fermi waiting for me to bring it a new +5V. On 19-June-95 the defective +5V brick, SN#17 from 14-Feb-92, was removed and +5V brick SN#30 from 7-Feb-92 was installed. But after 2 minutes of running with a 200 Amp test load the +5V brick SN#30 dies. So PDM-19 still awaits repair at Fermi. 6-July-1995 install varistors in PDM-19's A.C. power input lines. PDM-19 still awaits repair (a 600 Amp brick) at Fermi. 23-AUG-1995 install 600 Amp brick SN#30 which is just back from repair. Test all supplies and they are OK. PDM-19 is now back in the spare Power Pan storage cabinet at Fermi. On 7-DEC-1995 PDM-12 running in M105 Upper Tier 1 has its +5V brick die. PDM-12 is pulled out and PDM-19 is installed in M105 Upper Tier 1. On 8-DEC-1995 PDM-19 running in M105 Upper Tier 1 has its +5V brick, MSU SN#30 from 7-FEB-1992, die after just 15 hours of operation. PDM-19 is pulled out and PDM-10 is installed in M105 Upper Tier 1. PDM-19 has the MSU SN#30 +5V brick removed and a repaired +5V brick, MSU SN#23 from 7-FEB-1992, installed. Note this is the third time that +5V brick MSU SN#30 has died. PDM-19 was tested and is now a spare stored at Fermi. Then on 22-JULY-1992 the 5V 600A brick SN #27 was installed at Fermi. This power pan is now in service as top Tier 1 in M109. On 3-NOV-1992 the -2V brick in this pan dies. The pan is pulled out and returned to MSU for repair. It is replaced with PDM-05. On 9-NOV-1992 the -2V brick SN 54 was pull out of the pan and was replaced with -2V brick SN 73. This pan was then tested. On 1-DEC-1992 this pan was brought to Fermi as a spare. On 26-MAR-1993 PDM-20 is put into service in M107 Lower T1. This is done when the -4.5 V brick (S.N. 50) in PDM-22 dies. Power Pan ID: PDM-21 Location: D0 Hall 1st floor MCH +5.0 Volt S.N. 5 4-OCT-1990 Rev. On 23-AUG-1993, a couple of days after L1 Cal Trig Tier 1 was started back up after the summer shutdown, the +5V 600A brick SN #15 from 11-June-1991 failed. On 1-SEPT-1993 it was replaced with brick SN #5 from 4-OCT-1990. This work was done at D-Zero Hall. PDM-21 was returned to upper Tier 1 in M108 and operated OK. On 8-AUG-1994 the -4.5 Volt supply on this Power Pan started causing some Alarms from undervoltage. Dan Owen looked at it and it showed both AC noise and its DC output was jumping around. When I checked this supply using the Fluke on AC Volts it would climb up to 20 or 30 mV. All other supplies read 0.000 Volts. On 10-AUG-1994 I pulled this Power Pan and replaced its -4.5 Volt brick with a new one. The bad brick that was removed is SN#47. from 15-MAR-91. The new brick that was installed is SN#38 from also from 15-MAR-91. After this brick was replaced, PDM-21 was returned to service in M108 upper Tier 1. In February 1995 it was noticed that this Power Pan was making a lot of noise and that it was probably a -4.5 Volt brick problem. On 28-FEB-1995 this Power Pan was pulled from Upper T1 service in rack M108 and replaced by PDM-14. This Power Pan was returned to MSU for repair. At MSU it was confirmed that the -4.5V brick (SN#38) had problems under even a light load. It has lots of electrical and accustic noise and under heavy load it comes out of regulation. On 6-MAR-1995 the -4.5V brick SN#38 was removed and replaced by brick SN#95. This Power Pan was completely tested and returned to D0 Hall as a spare. On 5-June-1995 PDM-19 had its -4.5V supply fail and was pulled out of service and replaced by PDM-21 in M109 lower Tier 1. PDM-22 is pulled out of M107 Lower T1 and replaced by PDM-20. 27-MAR-1993 PDM-22 is shipped to MSU for repair. 30-MAR-1993 the bad -4.5 Volt brick (S.N. 50) is pulled out and returned to Pioneer Magnetics for repair. Brick S.N. 86 from 7-JAN-1992 is installed as the new -4.5 Volt supply. After testing PDM-22 is returned to D0 Hall as a spare Tier 1 supply. On 20-APR-1994 PDM-14, which had been the upper Tier 1 in M111 died (its -4.5 V brick died) and was replaced by PDM-22. PDM-22 is now operating the upper Tier 1 in M111.
