Procedure to Power Up of the L1 Trigger Racks 1st floor MCH ------------------------------------------------------------------- Rev. 20-JUNE-1995 This procedure describes all of the steps that are necessary to power up the Level 1 Trigger racks in the 1st floor MCH. Note: If it is necessary to boot either the L1 Trigger Control Computer (ELN node D0HTCC:: or boot the L1 VME Transfer Computer, a detailed explanation of how to do this is given in the instruction procedures for these systems. To apply power to the L1 Trigger Racks perform the following 5 steps in the order listed: 1. On the Photo-Helic differential pressure gauge, located at the front of rack M100, set the LOW LIMIT set point to 0.40 inches. The LOW LIMIT set point is controlled by the knob on the LEFT side of this gauge and and the value of the LOW LIMIT set point is indicated by the left hand red needle. 2. Press the "RESET" switch on the L1 Rack Power Safety System (RPSS) control panel located at the bottom of rack M113. This causes the RPSS to examine the state of all of its sensors. Depending on the state of these sensors, the RPSS will enter one of 2 states either "OFF" or "FAULT". If RPSS enters the "OFF" state then none of the RPSS sensors have found any problems and you should go to step #3. If the RPSS State Indicator shows the "FAULT" state then you should examine all of the Rack Sensor LED indicators and all of the Global Sensor LED indicators. It is OK for the AIR FLOW Sensor LED indicators to be ON but any other sensor LED indicator that is ON (e.g. temperature or water flow) indicates a problem that will prevent the RPSS from sending power to the L1 racks. FIX the cause of the problem that the sensor has found. DON'T try to jumper around one of the sensors. After you have fixed the cause of the problem you will need to press the RPSS "RESET" switch again so that it will re-examine all of its sensors and enter the appropriate state. If the Global LOCKOUT LED indicator is ON this indicates that a L1 RPSS Lockout KEY has been removed from the control box on either M100 or M113. Both of these keys must be in place for the RPSS to permit power to the L1 racks. If none of the indicators on the RPSS are illuminated then power has been removed from the RPSS system by the VESDA fire detector. 3. Press the Green ON button on the control box on either M100 or M113. The RPSS control panel Blower LED should illuminate and the blower should start and run by itself for 10 seconds. During this time all of the Air Flow Fault indicator LED's on the RPSS control panel should go out. At the end of the 10 second period the RPSS control panel Rack Power LED should illuminate and the contactors in the power control boxes on the top of all of the L1 racks will close which applies power to the racks. 4. Watch the black differential pressure indicator needle on the Photo-Helic at the front of rack M100. After about 30 seconds this black indicator needle should show a differential pressure of between 1.35 and 1.40 inches. After the differential pressure reaches this level, adjust the LOW LIMIT control knob (the left hand control knob which moves the left hand red needle) so that the LOW LIMIT set point is 1.10 inches. 5. Turn on the Power Pans for the L1 Cal Trigger. First turn on all the Tier 1 Power Pans and then Tier 2 and finally Tier 3. The L1 Cal Trig Power Pans are the green panels in racks M103 through M112. There are either 2 or 3 Power Pans per Cal Trig rack. After turning on these Power Pans, make certain that all of the front doors to the L1 Cal Trig racks are properly closed. To turn the power OFF to the L1 Trigger racks take the steps: If it is an emergency (e.g. a fire) then press the RED button (for an emergency shutdown) on the RPSS control box on either M100 or M113. For normal power down of the L1 Trigger racks take the following two steps. If you just need to reduce the heat load from the L1 Cal Trig (e.g. because of a water chiller problem) then only perform step 1. If you really need to remove power from the whole L1 system then perform steps 1 and 2. 1. Turn OFF the breakers on all L1 Cal Trig Power Pans. The L1 Cal Trig Power Pans are the green panels located in racks M103 through M112. 2. Press the YELLOW button (for a normal shutdown) on the RPSS control box on either M100 or M113.
