INSTRUCTIONS FOR STARTING THE L1.5 CAL TRIG 68K SERVICES COMPUTER ------------------------------------------------------------------- Rev. 27-JUL-1994 Booting the L15 Cal Trig 68k Services Computer ---------------------------------------------- 0. If the power is turned off to the L15 Cal Trig VME crate or the L15 Cal Trig CRC-MTG crate, then see the instructions at the end of this document. 1. These are instructions for booting the L1.5 Cal Trig 68K Services Computer (the L1.5 Cal Trig 68K). This computer is located in the first floor MCH in the top crate in rack M124. These are NOT instructions for the L1 68K VME Transfer Computer or the L1 Trigger Control Computer (the L1 ELN node D0HTCC). 2. Note that the L1.5 Cal Trig can NOT be used during the 68K Services booting process. The programming of the L1.5 Cal Trig will be lost during this process, and the L1.5 Cal Trig will need to be downloaded from COOR after booting the L1.5 Cal Trig 68K Services Computer. 3. Are you certain that you need to boot the L1.5 Cal Trig 68K Services Computer? This should not normally be necessary unless there has been a power outage or some very unusual problem. 4. Select the "68K" setting on the RS-232 Port Switch which is located on top of the room air conditioner unit that is east of rack M124. This switch can be seen when you are standing in front of rack M124, it will be near the upper latch of the the front door of rack M124. This switch connects the Hewlett-Packard 700/22 terminal (also located on top of the room air conditioner) to the L1.5 Cal Trig 68K_Services computer. 5. In rack M124 press the RESET push button for the processor half of the L15 Cal Trig VME crate. This push button is located in the right hand side of the blue panel just above the L15 Cal Trig VME crate. You will need to open the front door of rack M124 to do this. Please close and latch the front door of rack M124 after pressing this VME reset button. 6. The prompt for the 68020 Bug Monitor (135-Bug>) should appear on the HP 700/22 terminal. At the 135-Bug> prompt type: TM This puts the 68020 module in transparent mode. 7. The HP 700/22 terminal is now connected through the 68020 to the VAX host via a terminal server. Start or resume a session with LAT Service D0 Node D0HSB and log into the account: TRGUSER password: TRGGER . 8. After you are logged into the D0HSB VAX host and have a dollar sign prompt from the VAX, redirect the HP 700/22 terminal back to the 68020 BUG Monitor by typing: "control A". After you type "control A" you will get a 135-Bug> prompt. 9. Now load the code from the VAX host into the 68020 by typing: LO;X=TYPE TRGCUR:L15CT_68K_SERVICES.ABS 10. When the code is finished loading (about 20 seconds) you will get a 135-Bug> prompt. Now start the code running in the 68020 by typing: GO 95000 11. The L1.5 Cal Trig 68K Services 68020 program will announce itself and then display messages which indicate: the Crate Header Version Number, The L1.5 Cal Trig Revision Number, and the completion of a number of initialization steps. 12. Press the black RESET button on the VBD in rack M124. This button is unlabelled, but it is directly below the bank of green LEDs on the front panel of the VBD. The VBD is the rightmost module in the upper VME crate in rack M124. You will need to open the front door of rack M124 to do this. Please close and latch the front door of rack M124 after pressing the VBD reset button. 13. The L1.5 Cal Trig 68K Services Program is now running. Please return the HP 700/22 keyboard to the top of the room air conditioner unit. Please verify that the keyboard is stable. This keyboard does not have a bracket or supports to hold it in place. 14. The L1.5 Cal Trig must now be downloaded (via COOR) as part of a normal run configuration before it can be used. Applying power to the L15 Cal Trig ---------------------------------- 0. Verify that there are no caution signs in the vicinity of the L15 Cal Trig that say that power should not be applied to it. Is there some reason why the power has been turned off? Is someone working on L15 Cal Trig? 1. First apply power to the L15 Cal Trig VME crate. This is the top most crate in rack M124. You can reach the power cord for this crate through the rear door of rack M124. This power cord has a label on it and it is cable tied near the rear panel power entry point of the L15 Cal Trig VME crate. There is no other power switch on this VME crate. When you plug this crate in verify that the fans under this crate are running. The fan tray gets its power via its own cord. The fan tray should never be unplugged or turned off. 2. Turn on the power supply for the L15 Cal Trig CRC-MTG crate. This crate is located in rack M124 just under the L15 Cal Trig VME crate. The power supply for the CRC-MTG crate is on top of the room air conditioner that is east of rack M124. The front panel of this power supply is green and it is labeled as the L15 Cal Trig power supply. Turn its power switch on. All four red LED's should come on (+5V, -2V, -4.5V, and -5.2V). 3. The order of these steps is important. First the VME crate is turned on and then the CRC-MTG crate is turned on. When turning the L15 Cal Trig off, first turn off the CRC-MTG crate and then turn off the VME crate. 4. If the power has been off the the L15 Cal Trig 68k Services computer will need to be booted as described in the first part of this document.
