The easiest place to enter is from the top of racks which contain Cal Trig Tier 2 or Tier 3 card files (i.e. M105, M107, M109, and M111). It is also possible to enter the top of rack M114. Once inside the racks it is possible for the voltage measurement cables to run between racks in a path at the back of the racks either near the top or else near the bottom. In all cases the location of the source of voltage to be measured is near the back of the racks (i.e. the power bars at the back of the card files). The power bars all have 10-24 studs to which the fused voltage measurement cable leads can be connected. The following table shows the distance from the top of a rack to the source of the various voltages. Distance from the Type of Voltage Source Top of a Rack ------------------------------- ----------------- M101 or M102 Trigger Framework 12" M103 Framework Expansion 8" M114 Trigger Framework 48" Cal Trig Tier 1 Phi 1:16 24" Cal Trig Tier 1 Phi 17:32 56" Cal Trig Tier 2 or Tier 2 4" As an example of calculating the cable length inside of the L1 racks consider the voltage measurement cable running to the Cal Trig Tier 1 Eta +1:+4 Phi 17:32 which in the tables above show is near the bottom of rack M103. The closest entry point would be the top of rack M105. The cable would cross M105, M104, and M103. The racks are each 2 feet wide so this is a total of 72". As the table above shows the drop from the top of rack M103 to the location where the voltages can be measured (for a Cal Trig Tier 1 Phi 17:32 backplane) is 56". Thus to connect to Cal Trig Tier 1 Eta +1:+4 Phi 17:32 would require 128" of cable inside of the racks from entry point at the top of M105.
