DSP Cables for the Level 1.5 Calorimeter Trigger ---------------------------------------------------- Rev. 18-MAR-1994 This file is a description of all of the cables that plug into the front of the Hydra II DSP cards. Because of Steve and Kelly's work there is now only one type of cable needed to plug into the front of the Hydra II cards; this is a 12 pair twist and flat cable with a standard 24 pin 0.1" x 0.1" double row header connector. These cables are used both for the Hydra to CRC connections and for the Hydra to Hydra connections. The front panel of a Hydra II cards looks like the following (with a 10_Comm Port Expansion daughter card installed). +-----------------+ | LED's | | | | DIN | +--\ | | /--+ | + | | + .| <--- | | | +----+ +-----+ | DSP #3 | | Pin |P3 | DSP #1 | |.P3 | | .| | Com #0 |P14| #1 | | Com #3 | +----+ | P14 | | DSP #3 | | ---> |. + | +-----+ | Com #2 + | Pin +--/ | +----+ | \--+ #1 DSP #1 | |.P4 | +-----+ | DSP #3 Com #4 | +----+ | .| | Com #1 | | P13 | | DSP #3 | +----+ +-----+ | Com #3 DSP #1 | |.P5 | | Com #5 | +----+ +-----+ | DSP #1 | | .| | Com #1 | | P12 | | DSP #2 | +----+ +-----+ | Com #4 DSP #2 | |.P6 | | Com #1 | +----+ +-----+ | DSP #4 | | .| | Com #0 | +----+ | P11 | | DSP #4 DSP #2 | |.P7 | +-----+ | Com #4 Com #2 | +----+ | | +-----+ | DSP #4 | +----+ | .| | Com #2 DSP #2 | |.P8 | | P10 | | DSP #4 Com #5 | +----+ +-----+ | Com #5 +-----------------+ Both the Hydra II card and the 10-Comm Port Expansion daughter card use the "pin" type of UltiMate connectors. Note the location of the number 1 contacts as viewed looking at the front of the VME card. The contacts are numbered in the standard way that a "DB-25" connector is numbered (i.e. all of the pins on the long row starting with 1 and then continuing from the #1 end of the short row). The following two tables show the pin out of the UltiMate Connectors on the Hydra II main board and on the 10-Comm Port Expansion board. The actual Ariel Hydra II circuit board and the "Preliminary User's Manual for the Hydra II" are in agreement; the schematic print set has a pin out that is flipped end for end compared to the circuit board. Our temporary work around for this is to install the 24 pin headers on the "wrong" side of the 6 Port Paddle board.
