24-DEC-1991 : Modifications released by Philippe LAURENS, MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY CTTR ---- None of the code in LEVEL1 that is related to the TTOWER_DISP has been modified except for replacing the routine NORMAL_VARIABLE with a call to KERNLIB. SIMUL1 ------ The standalone version of the Calorimeter Trigger simulator has been dropped. All related files have been removed. L1C/L1SIM --------- This release of LEVEL1 is a major update to the PBD package formerly called L1C, now renamed L1SIM:" The internal computations made in the simulation have not been changed. We have made a few corrections. Most interfaces have been replaced or reworked. o Exactly simulate the Calorimeter Trigger hardware as built. Attach the Lookup System Manager (LSM) system in order to EXACTLY simulate the energy lookup PROMs. (LOOKUP_TABLE_0000.DAT now obsolete) This makes the simulator Use the double-sided low energy cut as implemented in the PROMs Use a true phi-dependent noise pattern Produce the actual ADC and lookup offsets o Replace the PROGRAMMING INTERFACE Use the messages that COOR would send to TCC as input to the simulator. (LEVEL1_CONFIG_0000.DAT now obsolete) The user provides a standard COOR Trigger Definition File, and uses COOR_sim (distributed with the LEVEL2 library) to generate a file with the appropriate messages o Evolution from a CALORIMETER TRIGGER SIMULATOR to a full LEVEL 1 SYSTEM SIMULATOR. Change name from L1C to L1SIM Simulate the Andor Network Accept Level 1 Trigger subsystems (see L1SIM_SUBSYSTEM.DOC) Accept Level 1.5 Trigger subsystems (e.g. Muon) Add user hoooks for L1 studies. (see L1SIM_SUBSYSTEM.DOC) o The file names and code structure were unsatisfactory and have been reorganized. As a result, 99 % of the files in LEVEL1 have either disappeared, been updated, split, merged, or simply renamed. If you cannot find a particular file please contact MSUHEP::LAURENS. o A uniform Zero Energy response of 8 is now present at the output of all ADCs in the front-end cards. The output of the ADC is a measurement of the transverse EM or HD energy in units of 1/4 GeV, with no vertex information, that is assuming the vertex at Z=0. The output of the ADCs is recorded in the TRGR bank (cf. D0 note 967). An ADC count of 8 corresponds to 0.0 GeV, 9 to 0.25 GeV,... o Several bugs have been corrected that became apparent only with the introduction of non-zero ADC zero energy response. o L1C calculated the Trigger Tower TOT Et by simply adding EM Et and HD Et. L1C was keeping an energy scale of 0.25 GeV per count. L1SIM now uses a scale of 0.5 GeV per count. This is the resolution available for Jet Trigger Thresholds. o Added a call to CHTINI at initialization time. CHTINI initializes the RCP bank CAHITS used by the routine CAD_GAINS. o The original version of L1C only provided for 4 Hot Tower Count comparisons on each reference set, and this restriction was hard-coded. L1SIM now provides for up to 16 comparisons on each reference set, and this number can be changed by changing a parameter. o The routine which generates the histograms for the standard summary, L1C_ANAL, did not correct for the ADC Zero Energy Response. The histograms about TOT towers only took the HD part of each trigger tower instead of TOT = EM+HD. Also the energy results generated were based on ADC counts (1/4 GeV per count) even though their titles mentioned transverse energy (Et), the titles and the quantities have been updated to GeV. o miscelaneous fix to the histograms in the programming summary: Rename hbook sub-directory from L1C to L1SIM The trigger efficiency histogram has been renamed "trigger hits" Reorder to display trigger hit histogram first. Fix numbering of sptrg. 0..31 and book only 32 channels. "TOT" histograms were using only HD, now use EM+HD Energy histogram were in units of ADC counts, now GeV Add HD tower count and HD energy histograms. o Change TRGR bank booking to a linear chain if one is found in the input event. o Add Prescaling Feature. Prescale Ratios are set in the trigger definition files used as input to COOR_sim. Additionally, a global switch must be enabled in L1SIM.RCP or at run time. cf L1SIM.DOC o Add BLS Correction Feature. see L1SIM.DOC o Major change and upgrade of the Programming Summary. o Add new RCP input file for allocation of andor term names to physical term number. This RCP file will become a standard output of COOR_sim. o Add a common block (see L1C_Z_CORRECTED_ET.INC) to make the ouput of the lookup PROMs available to the user for special private analysis. The numbers are integers in the units of ADC counts (1/4 GeV), with offsets removed. Please note that these numbers can be negative. These numbers correspond to vertex-corrected EM and HD Et according to the Level 0 fast vertex information. o Create L1UTIL_TRANSLATE_RS_LINE.FOR for COOR to use. This routine translates a line in a trigger definition .RS file and certify its proper syntax. o Level 1.5 Framework is in place, no Level 1.5 subsystem available yet (user can provide L15_USER_TERMS_SIM, contact MSUHEP::LAURENS for details) o Add Specific Trigger pass/fail statistics in programming summary o Add review of L1SIM.RCP Run Control Parameters to programming summary o Add first implementation of Level 1 and 1.5 Muon Simulator. At this time, only 2 Level 1 Muon terms are implemented and are hardcoded. ============================================================================== 11-MAR-1992 : Modifications released by Philippe LAURENS, MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY o Please also check INC, PARAMS and ZEBRA_UTIL release notes. o Update L1SIM.DOC minimum-bias triggers FORCE_VERTEX_CENTER in L1SIM.RCP (cf. below) L1SIM_INPUT_SOURCE in L1SIM.RCP (cf. below) the dump file (cf. below) o New file L1SIM_TECH_REF.DOC, supersedes L1SIM_SUBSYSTEM.DOC. o Level 1 crate ID updated from "1" to "11" in TRGR bank o Fix Trigger Mask in crate header to correctly reflect final decision after eventual Level 1.5 o Modified L1SIM_EVENT.FOR so that an empty Data Cable Trailer is added to the end of the TRGR bank after all *_FILL routines have been called. o Properly update the "previous" part of the L1 data block even when no Specific Trigger fired. That is what the hardware does. o Review all use of GZTRGR, and update to GZFIND_CRATE whenever appropriate. (see ZEBRA_UTIL release notes about GZFIND_CRATE) This is to prepare for the future sharing of the TRGR bank with Level 0, Muon Trigger,.... o Add run-time screen message about available banks in first event. o Split Framework and Cal Trig initialization routine into several pieces (LSM, Resource file, Programming file) o Changed all specific trigger variables to use [0,31] as indices. o Added ability to force the Energy lookup to use of the center lookup page. That is to ignore the Level 0 Vertex Information. The flag to toggle this feature is named FORCE_VERTEX_CENTER in L1SIM.RCP. o Added L1SIM.RCP parameter L1SIM_INPUT_SOURCE for explicit selection of input ZEBRA bank used for Calorimeter Trigger Tower Energies. Options: 'ANY', 'TRGR', 'CAD', 'CAEP', or 'NONE' 'ANY' implies a search order of TRGR, CAD, CAEP. 'TRGR' uses an existing TRGR bank. Noise may not be added, Level 0 Vertex is extracted from TRGR bank (i.e. not ISAJET) or Level 0 Vertex may also be ignored (see L1SIM.RCP) 'NONE' implies the Cal Trigger Tower Energies are not simulated No specific trigger requiring calorimeter energy can fire. o Total replacement/upgrade of the Level 1 data block dump. With toggle on/off tailoring of sections to be sent to dump files. Uses the new PRTRGR routine of ZEBRA_UTIL (cf. ZEBRA_UTIL release notes) May also be used standalone (without L1SIM) on MC or real data. o Replace single variable FIRED_NUMBER with several variables counting number of specific triggers firing at different stages. These variables are available for user histograms. (cf. L1SIM_TECH_REF.DOC) NUM_SPTRG_PASS_L1SIM NUM_SPTRG_PASS_L1 NUM_PURE_L1_SPTRG_PASS_L1 NUM_L15_SPTRG_PASS_L1 NUM_L15_SPTRG_SENT_L15 NUM_L15_SPTRG_PASS_L15 o Add a weighted HBOOK histogram of trigger hits. o Added to the programming summary: Level 1.5 Terms assigned to each Specific Trigger List of all defined Level 1.5 Terms o Add utility file L1UTIL_TRGR_ADC_UNPACK.FOR to return EM and HD energy deposits in GeV as read from TRGR bank. This will be used in the Global Event Display (FNAL::NOBU, Nobuaki OSHIMA) *** NOTE *** For simplicity, the offset (08) and scale (0.25 GeV per count) are hardcoded at the moment, so that no initialization and no LSM file is necessary.
