ADF-2 Board Control PAL Configuration -------------------------------------- Original Rev. 27-Sep-2004 Most Recent Rev. 11-Jan-2005 This file describes the configuration process for the board control PAL on the ADF-2 circuit board. Requirements: -A windows computer with Xilinx Impact software, an ECP parallel port, and a ps2 port. -A Xilinx Parallel Cable IV. -An ADF-2 Circuit board. -A configuration cable. This is a cable with a 2x7 connector at one end and a 2x10 connector at the other. -The files bcp.jed, xv2c1000_4fg456c.bsd, xc95144xl_5_tq144.bsd and bcp.cmd which can be down loaded at http://www.pa.msu.edu/hep/d0/ftp/run2b/l1cal/hardware/adf_2/firmware/bc_pal/_bin Procedure ========= 1. Plug in the PS2 power adapter for the Parallel Cable IV into a PS2 port and the DB25 connector into the parallel port on the PC. The computer should be off when this is done. 2. Plug in a 2x7 connector of the configuration cable into the Xilinx Parallel Cable IV. The cable is plugged into the Xilinx Parallel Cable IV such that pin 2 on the cable plugs into the pin labeled TMS on the Xilinx Parallel Cable IV. Also, the black wires on the cable plug into the ground pins on the Xilinx Parallel Cable IV. Looking down onto connector on Xilinx Parallel Cable IV. Plug in the 2x10 connector of the configuration cable into the ADF-2 P4 connector. The connector cable is plugged into the ADF-2 P4 connector such that the pin 1 indicator on the cable connector is away from the nearest corner of the board. Also all of the black wires on the cable will be away from the edge of the board. Turn on the power to the ADF-2 board. 5. Open a command window. This can be done by clicking on Start->Run and typing "cmd" and hitting return. 6. Change to the directory where bcp.jed, xv2c1000_4fg456c.bsd, xc95144_5_tq144.bsd and bcp.cmd resides. This can be done by typing "cd " and hitting return. Example: c:> cd c:\BCP 7. Run the command to program the prom by typing "impact -batch bcp.cmd" Changing Number of Devices in JTAG Chain ======================================== The number of devices in the JTAG chain must match the number of devices in the bcp.cmd file. If the number of devices on the ADF-2 circuit board change then the corresponding lines in bcp.cmd must be removed.
