ADF-2 Front Panel Mechanical Layout ---------------------------------------- Original Rev. 7-DEC-2004 Most Recent Rev. 4-MAR-2004 Front Panel The front panel is 0.780" wide. This width gives a 10 mill gap on each side between the inter-board separation plane and the side edge of the front panel. By definition the component surface of the pcb is 4.07mm from the inter-board separation plane to its left. 4.07mm minus the 10 mil gap means that the component surface of the pcb is 0.150" from the left edge of the front panel. Measurement of assembled cards looks slightly different. On these cards the component surface of the pcb appears to be more like 0.170" from the left edge of the front panel. For the layout this implies: The left LED is 0.100" up from the surface of the pcb --> 0.270" from the left hand side of the front panel. The right LED is 0.300" up from the surface of the pcb --> 0.470" from the left hand side of the front panel. The front panel is 9.065" long. The 6U VME card is 233.35mm tall. This means that the 6U VME card is 3.10mm taller than the front panel (1.55mm top and bottom). Thus to calculate how far down from the top of the front panel a point should be, subtract its distance up from the bottom of the card from 233.35mm and then subtract 1.55mm. Distance down from top of front panel equals 231.8mm minus the distance up from the bottom edge of the pcb. The 2 bracket mounting holes in the front panel are body drill and counter sink for metric M2.5 flat head screws. Counter sink in from the flat surface of the front panel. Mounting Bracket The mounting bracket is made from 0.375" x 0.375" bar stock. A cut is made 0.095" deep which leaves a 0.100" wide lip along the front edge. The 3 board mounting holes are 0.140" back from this front lip. The 2 panel mounting holes are 0.140" up from the board mounting surface. Notes from: 10-JAN-2005 - Want to cut down the left hand lip of the front panel (as viewed from the front) by 0.075" to give a nice amount of component clearence. - Measure from the left edge of the front panel (as viewed from the front) to the pcb mounting surface of the top and bottom handles and this is 0.163" on the average. - Measure the diameter of the substitute LED's and this is 0.120" to 0.125". - For the first 10 cards which use the substitute LED's, put the holes for them in 0.250" from either side of the front panel. Use 0.125" holes.
