H-Clk, MEZ-456, CB-Fan Status & Releases -------------------------------------------- Revision: 26-June-2012 MEZ-456 Card: The MEZ-456 is a small 95mm x 95mm mezzanine card that holds an FPGA along with its firmware PROM and power supplies. It connects to a supporting circuit board with 400 pins of Samtek FSI connectors. MEZ-456 is an 8 layer card with 94 components and 1161 traces. It uses standard pcb design rule technology to escape the 456 pin BGA footprint of the FPGA. - The design, both pcb layout and assembly data, was released for bids on 22-Nov-2011. - The vendor selection and "OK to Build" were released on 5-Dec-2011 with no changes to the design since it was bid. - The parts kit to build the MEZ-456 cards was shipped to the assembly vendor on 13-Dec-2011. - Approximately $566.50 worth of parts were ordered to build the MEZ-456 cards. The rest of the required parts came from "MSU Stock". - The cost to both manufacture the bare cards and assemble the components onto them is a total of $4,562.50 for 25 cards. We are building 25 of the MEZ-456 cards because they are basically a component on the H-Clk card. - The 25 MEZ-456 cards arrived at MSU on 8-Feb-12. H-Clk Card: H-Clk is a 160mm x 233mm card, i.e. a 6U VME size card. It is a 6 layer card with 409 components and 1812 traces. - The design, both pcb layout and assembly data, was released for bids on 29-Dec-2011. - The vendor selection and "OK to Build" were released on 9-Jan-2012. No changes to the design were made since it was released for bids. - Approximately $6,366 worth of parts are being ordered for the production of 20 H-Clk cards. The rest of the parts to build the H-Clk cards will come from MSU stock. - The parts orders to obtain the components to build the 20 H-Clk cards were release on 9-JAN-2012. - The cost to both manufacture the bare cards and assemble the components onto 20 H-Clk cards is a total of $4,837 - We are building 11 "Clock Type" H-Clk cards and 9 "Control Type" cards. - The parts kit for the build of 20 H-Clk cards was shipped to the assembly vendor on 6-Feb-12. - Received 20 assembled H-Clk cards on 6-Mar-12. Successful PLL clock, GPIO, GPS receiver interface, and VME operation running on 7-Mar-12 using proto-type front panels. CB-Fanout Card: The CB-Fanout card is a 160mm x 233mm, i.e. a 6U VME size card. It is a 6 layer card with 430 components and 1695 traces. Its primary functions are to provide LVDS to ECL conversion and to organize signals into the required groups (i.e. into Control Busses) on multiple cables. - A tentative final functional definition and connector organization of the CB-Fanout card was completed on 6-Jan-2012. Changes to this design were requested on: 2-Feb-12, 28-Feb-12, 3-Mar-12, and 26-Apr-12. - The CB-Fan card and the H-Clk card share some components in common, e.g. VME front-panel kits, 34 pin headers. Thus to the 9-Jan-2012 H-Clk parts order mentioned above, about $1,732 worth of additional components were ordered to support the eventual assembly of 12 CB-Fan cards. - The design data for the CB-Fan card, both pcb design and assembly data, was release for bids on 7-May-12. - Orders for 21 types of electronic components to build the CB-Fan cards were released on 10-May12. The cost of these components will be about $2,982. - The remainder of the components to assemble the CB-Fan cards (18 types of electronic components with an estimated cost of $1,829) will come from "MSU Stock". - On 11-May-12 the release to build 14 CB-Fan cards was sent with no changes in the design data since the bid. The cost to both manufacture the bare cards and then assemble the components onto the cards is about $5,943. - On 31-May-12 the Parts Kit to build 14 CB-Fan cards was shipped to the assembly house. - On 26-June-12 we received the 14 CB-Fan cards from the assembly vendor. Successful initial testing of 2 CB-Fan cards was completed on 28-June-2012.
