Check-In of the PFC-16 Cards ------------------------------- Original Rev. 12-Mar-2008 Current Rev. 11-Sept-2008 This file contains the procedure to do the final assembly and then the testing work on a PFC-16 card. This file also contains the trailer sheets for the PFC-16 cards. Final Assembly of the PFC-16 Cards ---------------------------------- 1. Install a ground jumper between the main ground plane and the 3M output connector ground plane. 2. Engrave the Serial Number on the card between the Preamp Power connector and the 3M output cable connector. 3. Install two M2.5 screws in the 3M output connector. 4. Install the input connector latch-eject ears. Replace the M2.5 screws that hold the input connector in place with new 16mm long M2.5 screws. 5. Install the 2 ground pin mounting brackets. Use 6-32 7/16" button head socket screws and #5 washers in the outer most hole in each bracket. Use 6-32 5/8" button head socket screws and #5 washers in the center and the inner holes in each bracket. Install 2 ground pins in each ground pin bracket. 6. Remove the 16 original 10 pFd open loop high frequency roll off capacitors (C4, C54, C104,...). 7. Remove the 16 original input protection dual diodes. These are the SOT-23 packages at reference designators: D1, D51, D101, D151, ..., D751. Install 16 new replacement BAV199 dual diodes at these locations. These new BAV199 diodes have the case label code "JY". 8. Install the 32 input FETs at reference designator locations: Q1, Q2, Q51, Q52, Q101, Q102, ..., Q751, Q752. These FETs have been sorted into 0.5 ma wide Idd bins measured at a Gate to Source voltage of -100 mV. In the card's trailer sheet note which Idd bin FETs were installed in which channels. A given channel must always has both of its input FETs from the same Idd bin. 9. Install the brass shield over the Preamp section of the PFC-16 card. 10. If this PFC-16 card is being setup to drive either an A, B, or C species ADF-2 card then remove and replace the output series terminator resistors as explained in the next section. Configuring the PFC-16 Card to Drive a Given Species of ADF-2 Card ------------------------------------------------------------------ Recall that there are 4 species of ADF-2 cards. Each species of ADF-2 card has a different gain and full scale differential voltage input as shown in the table below. The overall system gain, PFC-16 charge input to ADF-2 raw ADC data out, must be the same independent of what species of ADF-2 card is being used in the system. The gain adjustment to make this possible is done at the output of the PFC-16 cards. That is, a given PFC-16 card is setup to work with only one species of ADF-2 card. These PFC-16 channels drive the EM channels on the ADF-2 card. Install 280 Ohm resistors in the EVEN channel numbers on the PFC-16 card. These PFC-16 channels drive the HD channels on the ADF-2 card. B Install-keep 75.0 Ohm resistors in the ODD channel numbers on the PFC-16 card. These PFC-16 channels drive the EM channels on the ADF-2 card. Install 154 Ohm resistors in the EVEN channel numbers on the PFC-16 card. These PFC-16 channels drive the HD channels on the ADF-2 card. C Install 121 Ohm resistors in all 16 channels on the PFC-16 card. D Install-keep 75.0 Ohm resistors in all 16 channels on the PFC-16 card. PFC-16 Card Testing Steps ------------------------- 1. With the PFC-16 card running in the double shield box and nothing plugged into its input measure the noise level using the "Initialize DAQ" routine. Check for any unusually low or high noise level channels in the table that is displayed by this routine. In the trailer sheet for this PFC-16 card note the average rms noise level of the card. 2. Connect the 9 foot long polypropylene twist and flat cable to the input of the PFC-16 card. The bulk of the length of this cable is left coiled up under the inner copper shield. Use the "Initialize DAQ" routine to measure the noise level of the PFC-16 card with this input cable connected to it. Study the table made by this routine to look for channels with unusually high or low noise level. In the trailer sheet for this PFC-16 card note the average rms noise level of the card. 3. Connect the 32 Channel LArTPC Pulser to the far end of this 9 foot input cable using the modified BVDC card. Collect 2 or 3 events using the "Collect Events" routine. Plot one of these events to look for any unusually high or low amplitude signals. In the trailer sheet for this PFC-16 card note the "Run Number" of the pulser data that was collected using this card.
