DATE: 11-AUG-2010 TO: Hughes Electronics FROM: Dan Edmunds Physics Department Michigan State University RE: Assembly the WRP-16 printed circuit board ------------------------------- --- 11-AUG-2010 --- --- Good for Production --- ------------------------------- WRP-16 Circuit Board Assembly ----------------------------------- This file is a description of the assembly work required for the WRP-16 circuit boards. A drawing showing the general layout of the WRP-16 card was included in the gerber files that were used for the manufacture of the bare WRP-16 boards. Assembly of the WRP-16 Printed Circuit Boards ----------------------------------------------------- Circuit board name: WRP-16 Number of circuit boards to be assembled: 11 Except for 4 through hole connectors, all components placed on the WRP-16 card by the assembly vendor are SMD components. The total number of components placed on each WRP_16 card by the assembly vendor is 288 of these 284 are SMD components. Through Hole There are 4 through hole connectors that are placed on the top side of the card: two 6 pin connectors, one 36 pin connector, and one 50 pin connector. Surface Mount There are a total of 236 SMD components on the top side of the card. These consist of a total of 16 different component types. Of these 236 top side SMD components, 176 of them are in 16 identical arrays of 11 components each. There are a total of 48 SMD components on the bottom side of the card. These consist of 2 different component types. All 48 of these components are in a regular array. Overall Circuit Board Size: 160 mm by 233 mm 160 mm wide from left to right X dimension 233 mm tall Y dimension The 0,0 origin of the card is in its lower left hand corner. All design data is in mm. MSU will provide a kit of all of the components that are required for the assembly of the WRP-16 cards. Most SMD components are in regular arrays: The reference designators for all of the components in these arrays increment by a fixed value of 10 as you move from one array to the next higher array in the Y dimension. The spacing from one array to the next is 12.6 mm There is only one versions of the WRP-16 card to be built. 2 components: L900 and L950 (large through hole common mode chokes) will not be installed at this time. Please do not put solder in the lead holes for these parts. There are no other assembly steps or testing that we expect the assembly vendor to perform. We anticipate that all components will be supplied to the assembly vendor on Tape and Real. We understand that there may be an additional "taping charge" for any components that we do not supply on tape and real. As of this date I have all of the components that are needed for assembly of the WRP-16 cards. Design data that we can provide: Bill of materials for all components that the assembly vendor will install. Assembly drawings showing all components with reference designators for the top and bottom sides of the card. Component placement location files giving the orientation and the x,y location of the center of each SMD component. Solder paste gerber files. Currently the window openings in the solder paste masks are set to be the same size as the pads that they cover. The window opening size in the paste masks can be adjusted to whatever the assembly vendor recommends for each pad size. Please specify any other design data that you would like and we will work to get the information together. Anticipated Schedule: We will deliver the parts kit to assembly vendor ?? 2010. We do not require a "first article" card for this build but we are prepared to immediately examine and test a first article card if you prefer to make one. Delivery of the 11 assembled cards by ?? 2010 would be fine. Contact and Shipping Information: Daniel Edmunds Physics Department Rm 2150 Bio-Medical Physical Sciences Bldg.
