Planet Grouping Photo Page May 18th, 2002

This is a composite of 2 photos taken on May 18, 2002 around 10:36 pm EDT from the MSU Observatory.
Moon, Jupiter & Venus

Here's the Moon as seen through the eyepiece of the 24 inch telescope at the observatory. The camera was held up to the eyepiece of the telescope. Settings on the camera were on auto mode. The exposure time was just 1/114 of a second.

This is the MSU observatory on May 18th at 10:48 pm. In this 60 second exposure, you can see the star trails caused by the Earth's rotation. The speckles on the image are electronic noise from the digital camera.

Here's the 24 inch telescope. It's looking at M-13, the great globular cluster in Hercules.
24 inch telescope

This is M-13, the great globular cluster in Hercules. It's not that good of a photo, but considering that I just put the camera to the eyepiece, it's not too bad. I adjusted the brightness and contrast of the photo to bring out more detail. Click on the photo to see the raw image. Click here to see a really good photo of M-13.
