Homework (HW):

·        There are homework assignments as will be indicated in the Course Schedule. Each assignment will consist of  a small number of problems, mostly through LON-CAPA. You are encouraged to work together on the homework, but each student's answers will be different and must be entered individually.  A scientific calculator will be required for some of the questions. The homework will count approximately 15%  of the grade. Homework sets are  typically due Thursdays at  10 AM. A brief introduction to LON-CAPA can be found  at the website below:

http://www.loncapa.msu.edu/gettingstarted.html

Exams, In-class Quizzes & Grades

·      Unannounced In-class Quizzes: Based on lecture, reading, and/or homework, quiz questions  may be asked at any time during class, using the ICLICKER. Approximately 10% of the grade  will be determined by these quizzes. Your worst quiz during the term will not count. If you miss a quiz for any reason, you will have used up your one worst quiz. After that, only one additional quiz can be excused (see below) during the semester. There are no make-ups for missed quizzes.

·      Three mid-term exams (multiple choice) will be given in lecture on the dates indicated in the Course Schedule. Each exam covers the chapters and materials indicated on the web version of the syllabus. There will be no make-ups for the mid-term exams.  You may bring a  8.5"  X 11 " hand-written sheet of  notes (both sides) to each of the hourly exams and  3 such sheets to the final. Any sheet  in which material has been xeroxed will be taken away. No cell phones can be visible during the exam. Turn off your cell phones and put them away inside your backpack before the exam begins.

·     The final exam will be Tuesday Dec.l 11 from 7:45 AM to 9:45 AM. Room to be announced.

·      Documented medical (or other) excuses for ONLY one exam and one quiz. Your score for the excused exam or quiz will be based on your performance on the exams (other midterms & final) or on other quizzes, respectively. You must  send me an email within 48 hours of missing  the exam or quiz.

·      The mean point score will receive at least a 3.0. 45% of the grade will be based on the 3 hourly exams, 30% on the final exam, ~15% on the homework and ~10% on the in-class quizzes.
