What is the World Year of Physics?
The World Year of Physics (WYP2005)
is a worldwide celebration of physics and its importance
our everyday lives. Physics not
only plays an important role in the development of science and
technology but also has a
tremendous impact on our society. WYP2005 aims to raise the worldwide
awareness of physics and
physical science.

Why 2005?
The year 2005 marks the 100th anniversary of Albert Einstein's
"miraculous year" in which he
published three important papers describing ideas that have
influenced all of modern physics.
This year provides the opportunity to celebrate Einstein, his great
ideas, and his
influence on life
in the 21st Century. .
What is happening at MSU?
Einstein Centennial Event: a
celebration of the 100th anniversary
of Einstein's miracle year and the World Year of Physics (2005).
Date: March 10, 2005
Place: Michigan State University, Biomedical Physical Sciences Building

Space limitation: 100 students
Sponsors/Hosts: Department of Physics and Astronomy, Abrams
Planetarium,
Science Theatre
and the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory




Format: Visit will include
1) One hour show at the Abrams
Planetarium
2) Tour of the Cyclotron
3) Science Theater show, SOAR telescope
display and poster display by local
schools in the BPS
atrium
4) Special evening lecture on Einstein
"What
does E=mc2 really mean?"

Distinguished Professor
Each school attending is
encouraged to participate in a display
or demonstration to be set up in the
atrium of the BPS building. A
table (dimensions 2.5 x
5 feet) will be provided for each display.
Displays should be free standing. There is no access to water but should be access to power and
internet.
