Procedure for re-installing V1.1 of the DAQ_96 software 16-Sep-2008 0) Preliminary steps: Get Windows XP installed, with a big F: partition for your DAQ application and run data. Get Ghostview installed. 1) Install the SBS-bit3 driver The file below includes the SBS installation file Model_984.exe and documentation for their V1.3.0 software: http://www.pa.msu.edu/people/laurens/LArTPC/DAQ_96/bit3/984v1p3p0.zip You can unzip/extract these files into any directory. The .exe file will need to be run with administrator privileges. You can click through all the default choices. Once the PCI card of the Model 618 bus adaptor is installed in the computer, you will need to (still as an administrator) connect the driver to the bus interface. Assuming you are using Windows XP: from file explorer, find the "control panel", "Administrative Tools", "Computer Management", "Device Manager", you should find a category for "other devices" with one "PCI Bridge Device" with an exclamation mark (meaning that it does not have a valid driver installed). Right click on this device and select "Properties". Select the "Driver" tab on top, then "Update Driver...", then "Next" in the first pop up window, then "Search for a suitable driver for my device" and "Next", you don't need any "optional search locations" and "Next". It should then have found the drivers you have installed, listed as bit3884.inf, click next, and you are done. The "Device Manager" should now have replaced the "PCI Bridge Device" with a real name for the SBS bus adapter. 2) create a directory F:\DAQ_96 and unzip into this directory the content of http://www.pa.msu.edu/people/laurens/LArTPC/DAQ_96/DAQ_96_V1.1.A_with_python.zip 3) copy from F:\DAQ_96 these 2 shortcuts to the desktop (via drag-and-drop) DAQ_96_GUI DAQ_96_TCS 4) Optional: If you want to start with a specific run number N, you need to write the ascii string representing N-1 in F:\DAQ_96\CommandFIles\CurrentRunNumber.dat The default is to start with run number N=110. 5) Optional: If Ghostview has been installed in a different place, update the last line of F:\DAQ_96\DAQ_96_GUI\Site_Dependent.py
