Optical Instrumentation Tasks Quality Control tasks are indicated in red Work Crew: t- Technician for assembly ; g- general technician; s-student; QC- engineer or physicist Task/sub tasks Work Crew Duration (hours) Manpower (manhours) 1) Prepare module: Secure module on assembly stand 1t+1g 4 8 Setup work platforms, light tent, supplies tables QC0: Module inspection Fix as necessary: Epoxy in slots Spacer rings in slots Burrs on weld bars Clean module surfaces Insert shims in slots between sub modules Fix the rails that will hold the WLS/laser fibres Insert "aspirin" tubes Mark cell boundaries/numbers and label PMTs 2) Install tiles: Insert tiles into slots QC1: Inspect tile installation Fix any displaced tiles or wrappers 3) Install tubes and rods: Install clamp rods Install temporary source tubes (for the EBs) 4) Routing preparations: Install routing QC devices (light source) Install fiber separator wires Install ITC fiber assemblies (EB) Install the laser fibre bundles 5) Insert profiles/fibers: Insert ITC fibers into profiles (EB) Insert profiles into slots and sort fibres into depth segments QC2: Verify fiber lengths and sorting Secure profiles with tape 6) Route fibers: Make fiber sub-bundles Route sub- bundles to aspirin tubes QC3: Verify routing with a light source 7) Insert and glue sourcs tubes (barrel): Insert straight tube sections Insert and glue curved tube sections 8) Make fibre bundles: Fill aspirin tubes with dummy fibers Adjust fiber ends in the aspirin tubes Secure the fibers at the aspirin tubes with ties Secure the sub-bundles along the girder 9) Glue fibre bundles: Glue the fiber bundles into the tube Wait for the glue to cure 48 10) Secure fibre bundles: Cut dummy fibre ends Tie fibre bundles inside the girder 11) Polish the fiber ends: Setup the polishing machine in the girder Polish the fiber ends Remove the polishing machine QC4: Inspect the fiber ends Clean out the girder 12) Check/fix broken fibres: QC5: Check for damaged fibres Repair damaged fibres 13) Close up the module: Remove the fiber separator wires and trays Cover the module with Aluminum sheet Attach girder end plates 14) Cleanup Remove assembly fixtures and tables Remove empty boxes and tools Total
