Dear Students in PHY 184B and 234B, Thank you for taking Exam #1! The class average for Exam #1 was 29.6/50.0, and for the Correction #1 the average was 46.0/50.0. If you took "Exam #1", then you will see a score in that line of the table, but zero in the "Backup #1" line. If you took "Backup #1", then you will see your score in that line, and zero point in the "Exam #1" line. Please, just ignore the zeros, they will not be included in your grade. The scores displayed by LON-CAPA are raw scores. You will have to combine the exam score and the correction score by hand following the formula from the syllabus. The class averages above are combined together in the exact same way: 29.6+0.3*(46.0-29.6) = 29.6+0.3*16.4 = 29.6+4.9 = 34.5 which is a 69.0% performance. The ideal average exam performance is 66.7% i.e. 2/3. We are 2.3% above this value. If your exam score is not as high as you expected, then please, do not panic. We still have two more midterms, a final exam, and a lot of homework. The game is not over yet! We just warmed up. Please, sit down, push it hard, and you will get a happy grade!
