Dear students in PHY 215B, Summer 2024! You have received this message because you are enrolled in PHY 215B for the Summer of 2024, here at Michigan State University. The class is starting today, May 13th, Monday. You didn't miss anything yet. Our text book is: Stephen Thornton, Andrew Rex, Carol Hood: Modern Physics for Scientists and Engineers, Cengage, 5th edition. However, any previous edition of this book is going to work for our class. Please visit the loncapa.msu.edu page on the Net and log in using your MSU NetID and password. Select the PHY 215B class. Find and read the syllabus. This is the official syllabus of the class. The syllabus can be viewed directly from my homepage at the web.pa.msu.edu/people/nagy_t/ address without logging in to LON-CAPA. We will have weekly online quizzes on Fridays, weekly homework sets due on Sunday nights. We will have a final exam online at the very end of the semester. You can take the quizzes from anywhere using a computer with a reliable network connection. You are also encouraged to use the discussion board inside LON-CAPA. If you don't understand a problem and you need help, then just click on the "Post Discussion" link, and post your question. If you know the answer to somebody else's question, then don't be afraid to post your answer. Don't forget: The best way to learn is to teach. (= Doscendo discimus.) As Homework #0 you will find a folder with some problems in it. You can solve these problems without any reading or studying of the textbook. The purpose of these problems is to make sure you know how to enter numbers and units as your answer in case you didn't use LON-CAPA before. Currently the enrollment is 13 students. This is a large group. The highest enrollment in this class was 17, and the lowest was three. Thank you and enjoy the class! Tibor Nagy (nagytibo@msu.edu, web.pa.msu.edu/people/nagy_t/)
