peapod

A peapod is formed by filling a nanotube with fullerenes, as shown schematically below:

Fullerenes are rather mobile in the peapod, as seen in the real-time movie obtained during the Transmission Electron Microscopy observation of David Luzzi in 2000:

In reality, the harsh acid treatment used to open nanotubes damages also nanotube walls. Fullerenes may enter not only though the open ends, but also through defects in nanotube walls.
