JavaBeansTM Component API

Documentation Contents
JavaBeans extends Java platform's "write once - run everywhere" capability to reusable component development. In fact, JavaBeans takes interoperability a major step forward -- your code runs on every OS and also within any application environment. A Beans developer secures a future in the emerging network software market without losing customers that use proprietary platforms, because JavaBeans interoperate with ActiveX, OpenDoc, and LiveConnect.

Glasgow is the code-name for the 1.2 enhancements to the JavaBeans component model specification. Glasgow provides developers with standard means to create more sophisticated Java components and applications that offer their customers more seamless integration with the rest of their runtime environment, such as the desktop of the underlying OS or the browser. To achieve this, Glasgow adds an extensible runtime containment and services protocol. (Glasgow also encompasses Drag and Drop.)

Beans developers need to also download the Beans Development Kit, listed below.
