PHYSICS AND ASTRONOMY COLLOQUIUM Thursday, October 12, 2006 4:10 p.m. 1415 Biomedical & Physical Sciences Bldg. Refreshments at 3:30 pm in rom. 1400 BPS Bldg Speaker: Raman Sundrum Johns Hopkins University Title: Extra Dimension, the Hierarchy Problem and Particle Colliders Abstract: I explain why theorists believe in extra spacetime dimensions, how they are presently hidden, and how they can be discovered at high energy particle colliders such as the upcoming Large Hadron Collider. I show why the energy regime we are approached at particle colliders is a special opportunity for extra dimensions to appear experimentally, linked to their possible role in resolving the central puzzle of particle physics: the Hierarchy Problem.
