Refreshments at 3:30 pm in Rm. 1400 BPS Bldg Speaker: Maris Abolins Michigan State University Title: ATLAS Abstract: In November of 2007, the first proton beams will be injected into the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland representing the culmination of over a decade of construction activity. I will discuss one of the two large, general-purpose detectors at the LHC, ATLAS, in terms of its physics program, its capabilities and the prospects for new physics within and beyond the Standard Model.
