COMPUTATIONAL & THEORETICAL SCIENCE SEMINAR Friday, September 24, 1999 11:30 a.m., Room 224 Physics-Astronomy Building (Refreshments served at 11:15 a.m.) VISUALIZING THE ELECTRON DISTRIBUTION IN THE CHEMICAL BOND James Harrison Department of Chemistry, Michigan State University When two atoms come together and form a chemical bond, the constituent electrons rearrange so as to minimize the molecular energy. In this talk, I will discuss the resulting electron distributions and their relationship to the concept of the chemical bond. Various ways of representing the rearranged electron density for several small molecules will be presented.
