SCIENCE AT THE EDGE SEMINAR Friday, September 8 at 11:30am Room 1400 Biomedical and Physical Sciences Bldg. Refreshments at 11:15 Steve Granick Departments of Chemistry, Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, and Physics, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, IL Polymer-Assisted Fun with Phospholipids This talk describes epifluorescence studies of novel colloidal particles produced when phospholipid vesicles are stabilized against fusion by armoring them with adsorbed nanoparticles. The resulting soft, hollow capsules can be used to carry cargo, to release cargo, and for fundamental studies of colloidal dynamics even up to the point of reaching an arrested, jammed state. Time permitting, the rotational dynamics of colloids painted black on white side, white on the other side, will also be described..
