ASSEMBLE PROTEINS AND NANOPARTICLES ON DNA TEMPLATES (WEDEMEYER) DNA self-assembly may now be controlled to a very high degree, enabling design of a variety of nano-networks. Production of functional nano-networks on DNA templates is facilitated by use of proteins to functionalize DNA. Wedemeyer's group has demonstrated self-assembly of pilins and pseudo-pilins on DNA dodecamers at the micron scale (see TEM figure above). This enables controlled assembly of protein nanonetworks that will be used as templates for production of functional nano-networks, including metallic and semiconducting nanoparticle arrays. |
