Physics for Scientists and Engineers II
General Information
Course Outline: Electricity and magnetism, electromagnetic
waves, geometric and physical optics.
Lecturers: Prof. Carlos Bertulani and Prof. Kirsten Tollefson
Lectures: Section I is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday
from 4:10 - 5:00 pm
Section II is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 6:00
- 6:50 pm
Office Hours: You may attend the office hours of either professor or by appointment.
Prof. Bertulani - 11am to 1pm Thursdays in room 209 Cyclotron Building, phone 5-9672 ext 329.
Prof. Tollefson - 11am to 1pm Wednesdays in room 3234 BPS, phone 5-9200 ext 2138.

Homework:
There will be 12 homework assignments on LON-CAPA, which will be due on Wednesdays at 7:00 am.

Physics Learning Center:
There are numerous hours scheduled for individual student assistance
at the Strosacker Learning Center in BPS 1248. Our course will have TAs
available according to the schedule announced in class. For an up-to-date

Online Discussion:
The Asynchronous Learning Network is part of a project supported
by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and the Andrew Mellon Foundation. Help
can be obtained online via the ``CHAT'' - button on the LON-CAPA page for
each set. A TA will be online at times posted on the discussion link.
Exams and Quizzes:
There will be approximately 15 in-lecture quizzes during the term,
three midterm exams (with optional 30% partial credit by corrections), and
one final exam.
Grades:
The final grade will be based on the homework 24%, quizzes 10%,
exams 36% (each midterm is worth 12%), and the final exam 30%. There will
be NO make-ups for missed quizzes but your lowest
3 quiz scores will be dropped at the end of the semester.
The following grade scale will be used to determine your final grade:

The scale will not be raised, however, if necessary the levels may be reduced slightly.
Excuse Policy:
If any course requirements are missed you must have a valid documented excuse (e.g. signed note from a doctor, parent, etc.) in order to retake or to have those requirements dropped/averaged. Excused absences or extensions will be approved only with proper documentation. When possible, please notify the instructor in advance if you must miss a course requirement, otherwise notify the instructor as soon as possible afterwards. There are no excuses for in-class quizzes.
