- turn on the water cooling
- visually check the filter for free flow of city water or leaks.
- check both valves (large yellow and small red handles)
on the city water line are open (handles parallel to the pipe).
- switch on the Haskris heat-exchanger.
- ensure that the ``reservoir full'' (orange light on the front of the unit)
light comes on. If not, or if you ever notice that it is off, stop everything and
check the water level inside the reservoir. Top up with DISTILLED WATER. Don't be tempted
to use tap-water. Never operate the x-rays with the light off.
- listen for city water dribbling down the drain.
- Switch on power to the x-ray power supply:
- Check that the mains electric power disconnect (grey box on the back wall) is on
(handle up).
- press orange ``control power on'' switch on power supply
- Switch on x-rays:
- check that the only message illuminated on the front panel of the
unit says ``intlk closed'' in green. This means that there is sufficient water
flow throught the x-ray tube to switch on the x-rays.
- check preset current and voltage values by holding-in the green
``x-ray off'' button ont the front of the power supply.
This will activate the liquid crystal displays
on the front of the power supply and show the preset values, which should be...
- switch on the x-rays by pressing the red ``x-ray on'' button. It is safe
to remain in the lead-room with the x-rays on provided the shutter is closed.
- ramp up the voltage to the required value: 45 kV for Mo and Ag tubes.
- ramp up the current to the required value: 55 mA for Mo and 40 mA for Ag tubes.
- run for your life (just kidding).
- check that the lead room is free of people and leave yourself, closing the door
behind you.
