Turning off the x-rays

 

1. Close shutter (switch below the red light on the shutter control box: DOWN is off). The shutter-open failsafe light will go out.
2. enter the lead-room. LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN AT ALL TIMES WHILE IN THE LEAD ROOM.
3. ramp down the current to 5 mA (upper left dial on the x-ray power supply front panel).
4. ramp down the voltage to 12 kV. If you ramp it too far the power supply may trip off due to an under-voltage (it can be reset by cycling the power).
5. switch off the x-rays (depress the green ``x-ray off'' button: out is off).
6. if the x-ray machine is going out of service, power off the power supply (orange switch).
7. leave the water running for 1/2 an hour to cool the target before switching off the water.
8. switch off the water:
   1. switch off the Haskris heat exchanger (switch on the front).
   2. close the yellow handled mains water valve.
