Another constellation created by Nicolas Louis de La Caille between 1750-1754. The constellation is formed from stars that were once part of Carina, Vela, and Puppis, which was once the constellation of the ship Argo Navis. Prior to being named Pyxis, these stars once formed the obsolete constellation of Malus, the mast of the ship.
