A modern constellation created by Polish astronomer Johannes Hevelius in 1690. Originally it was called Sextans Uraniae. He created the constellation to honor the astronomical sextant that he used to measure the positions of stars. The constellation is composed of dim stars and is visible between Leo and Hydra.
