About me
Home

Computers are a part of my daily work and one of my main research tools. This section collects links and information that I find useful. Following are some of my favorite links.

Linux

In 1997 I started using Linux (or more accurately GNU/Linux where Linux is the kernel of the system whereas the rest are GNU programs and utilites.) Since then it has become my primary operating system. I am still using Windows 95 for games, some 3d work and to test the newest Java releases though.
There are so many Linux resources on the web that I could not possibly list them all. But there are a few that I visit regularly:
freshmeat.net lists daily announcements for new software and software versions and LinuxHQ has uptodate information about the newest Linux kernel.

X, window manager and desktop environments

I am using KDE as my desktop environment but there are many other choices, e.g. GNOME.

Projects

I am working on implementing a couple of algorithms for my research. An example is my SmaGL package. But my largest project at the moment is Weltgeld a personal finance manager with a twist.

Tools

For programming complex algorithm, for analyzing and visualization of data I use many different and mostly free tools which might be useful for you too.
On the lowest level there are the compilers. So far I am using gcc and Sun's JDK for my software development.
I have yet to find a Java IDE (Integrated Development Environment for those of you who think we use way to many abreviation. (Ja, ja der Aküfi!)) However, I really start to like kdevelop for C and C++ programming.
As a visual frontend to my debugger software I use ddd.
